Part Eight
"Yash, I have liked Aarti since college days. Do you know how my poor heart broke when she chose Prashant? I'm more handsome than him, still.." he continued
"I was in overseas when I heard news about Prashant and when I came back she was with you."
"Hai! Meri phuti kismet, I lost even the second time" Aman's rambling went on. Aarti was trying hard to control from bursting into laughter especially when Yash looked at her for some kind of reaction, she was struggling to keep a straight face.
"Yash, you have two two wives and I'm still single. Give Aarti to me, I promise I will take care of her and Ansh," he grabbed Yash's hand and almost begged him.
"Ahem!" Yash cleared his throat and replied, "No".
"No! Why?"Aman asked.
" I'I' don't know what to say? I need to think about this," Yash answered him and he excused himself to leave. He only managed to go few steps down then he came back.
"I forgot my keys," he said with a forceful smile and hurriedly went down.
When they heard the door closed both Aman and Aarti laughed uncontrollably.
"Aman, don't you think you went overboard with your acting?"Aarti said in a jest.
"This acting and this face has won many many hearts. Do I need to bring up all my previous conquests," he pulled up his collar and said rather boastfully.
"By the way Aarti, Yash is totally latoo on you, he will confess soon."
"Really Aman, are you sure your plan will work?" Aarti asked not convinced.
"Listen Aarti, there are only two possibilities. Agar pyar hai toh Yash tumhara, agar nahi hai toh main hoon na." Aman said.
"I will make your Yashji burn with jealously till he becomes a toast," Aman added.
Aarti seeing Aman having fun when she is stuck in a rut, shrugged it off and left him alone in the room.
"Aarti'.Aarti'.,"he called out to her but she ignored him.
Two days later Aman called Yash, he invited Yash to join him and Aarti for a night out. Yash wanted to decline initially but the desire to see Aarti again was too tempting to pass. He agreed. Of course later Arpita seeing Yash getting ready to go out and gathering all the information was more out of curiosity decided she want to tag along. She didn't want to hear no as an answer and Yash only hoped the night doesn't turn out to be a nightmare.
So Yash and Arpita arrived earlier. Aarti upon seeing Arpita was surprised she wasn't expecting her or rather not meet her. Aman on the hand was hardly bewildered, he guess as much that she might be Arpita.
"Is that Arpita?" he asked Aarti for confirmation. She nodded.
"Good this is more fun than I anticipated." Aarti rolled her eyes at him.
Yash was admiring Aarti when she walked in. He had never seen in western attire, she simply looked stunning in her jeans and top. Before he could even recover they were seated in front of them. He introduced Aman to Arpita. Aman complimented Arpita, she was impressed while Aarti in her mind thinking Aman the flirt has said the same dialogue to hundreds of women. Aarti and Arpita went with juice while the men ordered their drinks.
Aman started his game plan, he pulled Aarti's hand and put it on the table then he proceeded to put his hand on hers. Aarti feeling a bit weird tried to pull her hand but he forcefully held it. She stepped on his foot out of frustration. Arpita and Yash had an opposite reaction to the scene, one was smiling and the other one was rather displeased. Yash had a strong urge to push his hand away instead of that he took his drink and gulped it down.
Aman upped the game, he put his arm around Aarti and pulled her closer. If Aarti was pissed with him then Yash was green with jealously. He gulped down another glass of drink. Arpita told him to ease it a bit, he didn't pay heed to her and ordered more drinks. Yash drank a few more glasses.
Aman was talking about his travelling experience when he casually said, "Aarti, I will take you to Venice for our honeymoon. It is a beautiful place."
Aarti gave Aman the "that's it" look and excused herself to go to the ladies. Within split seconds Yash followed her. She came out of the ladies and saw him leaning against the wall. He didn't look sober to her, she walked pass him. He grabbed her hand pulled it with force towards him.
"Aartiji'.Why are you doing this to me?" he looked her into her eyes and asked her.
Aarti's face reddened and she struggled to answer, "What did I do?"
"You and Aman, please I can't bear it. I won't allow it. I..I..ll ," he stuttered and when the effect of alcohol kicked in his head dropped to her shoulders. She supported him with both her hands. Aarti was overwhelmed, for the first time she heard the unspoken words albeit they were not spoken yet they reached her heart. Aarti helped Yash to go back to their table. Seeing his condition Aman together with Aarti dropped Yash and Arpita home. Later Aman asked Aarti if Yash has said anything when they were alone, she just sighed.
Meanwhile Arpita laid the drunken Yash on the bed, she wondered why Yash drank so much, it was so unlike him. Just then she noticed Yash's wallet on the floor, she picked it up. She realised there was a picture in it, assumed that it was hers and when she flipped to look, the picture was Aarti's. She was crushed and looked at sleeping Yash, the urgency to do something crossed her mind. She called Aarti and arranged to meet up the next day.
Arpita went to into the cafe and noticed Aarti presence. The first thing that caught her attention was her mangalsutra and sindoor. That made her flinch.
"Sorry Aarti I had to call to meet you outside, I needed to talk to you in private ," Arpita said.
"I see you didn't mourn very long for Prashant and have moved on."
"How dare you talk about Prashant? If not for you he would still be alive,"Aarti lost her cool.
"Is that what it is, a tit for tat because I took your husband from you now you are snatching my husband," Arpita was on a roll.
Aarti got up to go but Arpita stopped her.
"Look Aarti I'm sorry about Prashant, not a day goes by where I don't regret it. My life changed too. Besides, I forced Yash to marry you I sacrificed for you."
"What kind of marriage? I have a husband whom I cannot claim as my husband."
"Yash loves me, he will never leave me," Arpita said.
"If you are so convinced of his love, why are you here talking to me,"Aarti smirked.
