Part Seven

"Aarti., Aarti'.," Vidhi was calling out for her the next morning. She went to Aarti's room but she wasn't there. A perplexed Vidhi went to look for Yash and found him walking in after his morning exercise.

"Yash Bhaiya, do you know where Aarti went? Mummji has asked me four times about Aarti today,"Vidhi enquired.

Yash thought to himself, "So she left without saying anything to anyone."

Vidhi now worried asked again, " Yash Bhaiya, is something wrong? Where is Aarti?"

By then Gayatri, Buaji joined in. After much pestering Yash finally told them, "she has left this house." He walked away from them lest they should bombard him with more questions and right now he was not in the mood.

"Bechari Aarti, she must have left because of Arpita," Gayatri said.

"What bechari, in no time she will hook another rich guy," Buaji chided.

"Jiji, don't say this kind of things about Aarti, Aarti is not that type of girl" Gayatri dismissed the thought.

Yash who heard all this felt his body going tensed.

Days passed, even though they missed Aarti and Ansh they carried on with life. Yash drowned himself in extra work. His plan worked for him or so it seemed. At first he was doing so well, he was working on a new project he felt a rush of adrenaline. His relationship with Arpita was fine too. As more days passed by, a weary numbness seeped in. He tried in vain to block flooding memories of Aarti. He was baffled himself, when he was separated from Arpita he waited for her to be back and now when she has returned he is longing for Aarti. Why should Aarti matter more than Arpita?. His mood was affected coupled with anxiety he had difficulty in eating and sleeping. He put up a front to stop others from seeing how unhappy he was inside.

Aarti '. often times when he relived memories of her, he visualized her with a beautiful smile, long luscious hair and soulful eyes. He was won over by her caring nature and inner beauty. Yash recollected how she took care of him when he contracted malaria after an outdoor working trip. In her pregnant state, she used to watch him overnight. She basically took care all of his needs and even put up with his grumpiness so much so when she was not around he felt so lost. At one time in his delirium condition he pulled her close to him and slept hugging her till the next day. Of course he apologized not sincerely though. It was just the beginning of an attachment he started feeling for her. The attachment grew bound and leaps until it found an equal partner on the unforgettable rainy night. Yash was elated that Aarti responded with equal amount of passion during their union.

Alas, everything changed the next day. He received a call from Arpita.

"Yash', I called you last night you didn't answer. Where were you?. Well'. guess what, my case is under review I will be coming home soon," she told him excitedly.

The phone call burst his bubble, his dream of life with Aarti will never be realised. When he returned to the house he saw Aarti restlessness trying to approach him and later her disappointment with his complete disregard for what had happened between them. He was distraught that he could not fulfil her yearning for him.

Many times he picked up the phone to call but stop short of pressing the call button. Finally one evening while driving back home he made a detour to her house. Dubeyji welcomed him in. Yash noticed there were guests in the house and excused himself to leave.

"Yash, it's ok they are our family friends, they won't mind," Dubeyji said to stop him from leaving.

"This is Mrs Khanna and ', a young man butt in.

"I'm Aman, naam to suna hoga," he smiled and introduced himself.

"Hi, I'm Yash Schinidia."

"Yash, who?, oh! Aarti's husband," Aman asked and proceeded to answer by himself.

"Yash, I will call Aarti down," Dubeyji told Yash.

He got up but Aman offered to go up and call her. He went upstairs looking for her. Aman conveyed to Aarti about Yash's presence and immediately she wanted to rush to meet him. She later recollected her thoughts and said dejectedly, "he must have come to see Ansh not me"

"Hmm.., I will call him up and then we'll find out," Aman said rubbing his chin.

Aman stood at the staircase and gestured to him to come up. Yash was ushered into a room where Ansh slept. Upon seeing Ansh, Yash became emotional, he wanted to hold him yet didn't want to wake the soundly sleeping Ansh. Yash kissed Ansh on his forehead and headed to the door but not before looking around the room.

Aman picking the cue said, "are you looking for Aarti?, she is in the next room."

Aman knocked on the door and said, "Aarti, Yash wants to see you, can you come out?"

Aarti came out and they both shared a rush of happiness. Yash was feeling awkward, his

feelings was thrown to further disarray by this meeting. Aman suggested the three of them sit outside the balcony, so they can converse while enjoying their evening tea. Aarti made tea and brought it up. Yash observed that Aman and Aarti were rather close, they had similar interests and they could go on talking for hours. Yash then left them for a while to make a phone call.

"Aarti, Yash has not once removed his eyes from you since he came," Aman tapped Aarti's knees and said.

"Oh..! I don't know if he even cares about me," Aarti replied him.

"Don't worry I will make him confess, I have a sure-fire plan,"Aman winked at her.

Aarti just laughed it off. They were later joined by Yash.

Aman put his hand on Yash's shoulder and said, "Yash, it is good all three of us are here. I want to ask your permission to marry Aarti."
