PART II
Yash entered his room with much surprise. In these 4 years, he had always been welcomed by a loving hug from Aarti whenever she would not be reporting at work. But today, he found it quite unusual that not only she wasn't with the other ladies in the living room, but also she was sitting by the window in their room, lost in her thoughts with a pale face. Was she alright, was the first thought which came to him. He opened the door and closed it and still Aarti seemed not to have heard anything or sensed his presence. By now, he was sure something or the other was wrong. Putting his bag in its place, removing his coat and loosening his tie while unbuttoning the first 2 buttons of his shirt, he slowly went towards his wife.
Placing his right hand on her shoulder, he slowly whispered : "Aarti"
When she didn't respond, he called out for her a second time, except a bit louder ; "Aartiii."
This broke her trail of thoughts and she turned towards him replying a certain "Huuuh" and then regaining her complete self, she said :
"Aap aagaye. Sorry, I didn't realise. What will you have Yash?"
As if Yash could sense that something was definitely wrong he asked:
"What's the matter Aarti? You were not in the living room today like you always are and then you didn't realise when I came. Moreover, you seem so pale and depressed. Anything wrong?"
Cursing herself for presenting herself in such a way, Aarti softly replied that she was all good, except she was disturbed a little bit with an unusual case with one of her patients, and it seemed to her that Yash was quite convinced with her reply.
"Aaap Jayie Yash, fresh hoke aayie, tab tak I will set the table for you. Theek hain?"
"Ok, gimme 15 min, I'll come downstairs itself."

When Yash came into his room after completing his work in the study, he was quite surprised to find Aarti already on bed. Well, she usually waits for him, then why today itself, and also, she was not even sleeping. Maybe she indeed is disturbed by her patient's case. Wanting to make her feel relaxed, Yash slowly went by her side and turned her towards him.
"Already to bed and woh bhi without me. Not fair Wifey, I just don't like it," said Yash with mock anger before letting out a chuckle.
"Waise Aarti, when I came home today, Maa told me what Kapoor Aunty was saying. Tumhe kya lagta hain, baron ke baat maan lena chahie na," and this was immediately accompanied with a gentle bite on her earlobe while he snuggled into her and inhaled her lemon-scented shampoo from her long, silky black hair.
He expected her to shy away, turning into her usual red self whenever this topic comes up, but to her surprise, she was not even responding to his hug. Moving away from her, Yash looked up to see his wife in tears. He was actually taken aback. Why was she crying? He was now certain that something big was the matter, as a patient's case can never make her react like this.
He reached out to her face and wiped her tears before gently asking :
"What's the matter Aarti? Tumse aise kyun ro rahi ho? Apne Yash ko nahi bataogi? Tell me Aarti. What's wrong? Maybe I can be of some help."
But instead of replying she just hugged him tightly as if her life depended completely on that one hug, and she started with her continuous sobs.
********************************************************
This took Yash by panic. He was scared now. Is she in some kind of a problem, was what first came to his mind.
Taking him out of his embrace after a while when he felt her sobs subsidising, he again gently said:
"What is it Aarti. Tell me please. Dekho, I cannot see you like this. It pains my heart. Please Aarti, ab bolo bhi."
Seeing his assuring eyes resting on hers, Aarti decided that the right time was now or never. After all, she couldn't just hide such a big thing concerning both of them for so long. But again that fear was lingering. What if Yash leaves her. The love for a child can make one go to any extent at times. After all, she is a doctor and she has been witness to such cases so many times. What if Yash also leaves her? But then, she had no choice, she would have to tell him.
Taking a deep breath, with Yash's hands on top on hers, and silent tears coming out of her eyes, she slowly began:
"Yash, woh, actually, aaj Ka...Kap...Kappor Aunty jab aayi thi, toh toh she said k..."
And then he interrupted her.
"Acha woh, yea I know, Maa told me. But what is there to cry about. If you don't want any babies abhi, toh chill, am in no hurry as long as you are here with me, by my side. Mujhe koyi jaldi nahi hain Aarti. Woh, toh bas ainvayi keh raha tha."
Looking away, Aarti quickly said:
"Aisi baat nahi hain Yash. At least li...li...listen to me completely."
Nodding, he signaled her to go on.
"Woh, even I was about to tell you ke am ready for this. But then jab hospital gayi check up karwaane, toh toh..." and unable to continue further, she again started crying. She didn't have it in her to tell him this.
"Heyyy, shhhsshhh, nahi batana chahti to mat batao, but aisa mat karo. Kaha tha na maine, I cannot see you like this. Acha leave this, and let's go to bed. You need to wake up early and aise roegi toh you will have headache in the morning," said Yash not wanting to make her feel disturbed as he could see how uncomfortable she looked.
Placing her on the bed, he moved forward to cover her with the duvet when he felt her hold on his hand. Looking in her way, he saw her closing her eyes painfully and then said in one go:
"Main Kabhi Maa Nahi ban sakti Yash."
