"Humare bhaiya kabhi kisiko nahi rulate. woh kabhi koi galat kaam nahi karenge..... Humare bhaiya bahot aache hai....."
Pratha's words echoed in his ears, as Prithvi angrily led himself to his tent. Though many hours passed after noon, sun was shining brightly in the sky. Prithvi was sweating and he did not not care to wipe the sweat from his face.
"Nahi, mein itna achha nahi hu Pratha, maine phir usse rulaya."
He felt repented of speaking so harshly with sanyogita. But then, what he could have done? At one moment she talked finely with him, rising his hopes that there is a slight chance, for everything to be fine between them and at other moment she asked him to go away. Then how he was supposed to react? It did really hurt him each time, when she asked him to go away from her here, from her life, when she said she hates him. Doesn't she know, even today he loves her, loves her by heart and soul, more than his life? Doesn't she know, without her, how painful his life had become, for last few years?
Mixed emotions were boiling in him as he took long steps and increased his speed. Small blow of wind touched his sweating face and provided him a cooling effect, which made him feel better. His hair were flying back and he was saved from an effort of wiping them away from his face. He shifted his sleeves back while walking. His king's style walk and attitude made many people on their way to wonder who is he? Some women and girls stopped on their way and watched him. He paid no attention there. Sword which was hanged on his waist, banged on his leg. He wished to move out of this place as early as possible before he again gets involved in Sanyogita.
He saw his tent from the distance. Its surrounding was desolated. People were busy working in the temple, making arrangements for night's bhajans and Mehndi program or practicising dandiya. Prithvi reached his tent and went inside.
Something was wrong. It did not take a minute for him to recognize that somebody had searched their tent. He was sure that something like this would happen. He looked around to find some clue, but couldn't find anything. It did not mattered much since there was nothing important left in the tent. But then it was sure, someone is behind them and knows about their mission. Information about their mission should not fall in their enemy's hand. This would endanger life of Delhi's intelligence team and may ruin Prithvi's future plans."Kaun hai yeh log?"
Prithvi came out and got the other shock when he saw someone coming out from Sanyogita's tent. He was tall and thin. Prithvi decided to tag him ignoring every question that popped up in his mind.
That guy was making his way in between tents. This time Prithvi was all determined to catch up with these spies or whoever they were. He took left and right turns behind that guy. It seemed, that guy was purposefully moving through places where clothes were hanged for drying. Prithvi had to remove or shift those clothes by hands as he walked, to keep him from going out of sight. "Kahi iss shak toh nahi hua." But, it was also easy for Prithvi to hide, each time that guy turned back.
After temple's work was done, everyone dispersed. Pundir and Arjun too set out towards their tent. On their way they stopped to buy some bananas. After selecting couple of bananas, Arjun took out coins from his bag and some of them fell down. They bend down to collect. Pundir looked around and saw the same guy who was keeping a watch on them in the temple. He pointed him to Arjun and said "Lagata hai humara pichha karte karte yaha pohcha hai."
"Ab chodenge nahi isse. Mein thak gaya hu iss chupa chupi se." said Arjun collecting coins.
"Par Yaha kafhi bheed hai." Pundir said, by taking a quick view of the surrounding. He dropped the coins from Arjun's hand.
"Kya khayal hai, Kisi viraan jagah par le chalte hai isse." Arjun said recollecting the coins.
"Aur bhi toh log ho sakte hai. Ek kaam karte hai alag alag jate hai, neem ke ped se jo rasta, sidha pedon mein bahar jata hai, ussi jagah pe le chlate hai." saying this Pundir picked up the remaining coins.
Arjun: "Thik hai, tum daye jao aur mein baye jata hu."
Leaving bananas they began to move in the said direction. They acted as normal as possible and gave an impression that they were unaware that someone is following them.
The guy whom Prithvi was following entered in a tent, near the boundary of the camp. He glanced around before entering in. Prithvi lurked behind a tree to the right of the tent and kept an eye on the tent. There was no one around. He looked on his left and saw Arjun coming, who crossed the tent from its leftside and went straight into the trees, crossing camp's compound. Arjun did not notice Prithvi. The guy who was following Arjun went behind him. As he crossed the tent, he whistled and one more came out from the tent and followed them. To the right of the tent Prithvi saw somebody moving. He tilted to his right to have a glimpse of whoever was there. From the costume Prithvi recognised a girl there.
"Prithvi, tum yaha?" Prithvi shuddred and turn back. He was Pundir. As decided even he reached the same place. But no one followed him.
"Hamare tambu ki talashi li gayi aur ek banda Sanyogita ke tambu mein bhi gaya tha. Us tambu mein wohi log hai." prithvi whispered pointing the tent.
"Kya kare, badhe aage?" asked Pundir taking out his talwar.
"Ha..... lagta hai bahot aadmi hai yaha inke. Hume......."
"aaaaaaaa......." They heard a scream of a girl. Prithvi turned and took out his sword. Before he noticed who the girl was, Pundir already ran there, shouting "Payal......."
Payal was peeping in their tent and trying to understand their conversation. Someone saw her and two of them came out through back door and attacked her with talwar. She scatted to the camp side. But two more came from the front door and Payal took her way towards the trees.
Pundir recognised her immediately and ran behind four people chasing her. He landed between them and Payal. There was no time to talk. He stopped their attack by holding his sword across and pushed them backwards. Before they came forward again, he moved his sword diagonally on them. His sword gave a cut across the chest to one of them and he fall down. Payal took out her sword and attacked one. Remaining two again moved on pundir. His sword fell down and he got a sharp cut on his arm.
There were two more in the tent who came out and were about to disperse in other direction. Prithvi blocked their way by holding his sword on them. He was about to ask them questions, but they attacked him. Prithvi raised his sword for each of their stroke. One of them punched him in the stomach and he fell down. They too run towards the compound and through the trees. Prithvi quickly got up and ran after them. As he crossed the tent, he peeped inside through the window. Tent was empty.
Arjun tactfully got out of sight from the two men following him and hide in a ditch. Above him on the ground, they wondered here and there "Ab jaldi se iski talashi lete hai, ab haath se nikalna nahi chahiye yeh..... " Arjun heard one of them speaking. He raised his head from the ditch and found one of them near at hand. Arjun held his legs and with force pulled him down. He gave a cry. Arjun shut his mouth with hand from his back and asked him "Kiske aadmi ho tum?" Arjun tried to reach his pockets, but that guy pulled himself from his grip and took out a knife and was about to give Arjun a stroke with it but Arjun held held his head in both hands and twisted it. That guy died on spot. Other man came running and raised his sword. But Arjun jumped out of the ditch, took out his sword, inserted it in his stomach and pulled back. Second man also died. Arjun examined their clothes and pockets to get some hint about them. He did not find anything and buried both of them in the same ditch. He was about to relax when "Payal bachhke ....." he heard Pundir's voice. Holding his sword ready at hand, he ran in that direction.
Prithvi was too fast for two guys, who escaped from him. He came in front of them and asked "Kaun ho tum log?" They again attacked him, but before they realised what happened to them, Prithvi gave them strokes, one after the other on their chest and back and killed them. He turned back and few feets from him saw payal defending herself with great difficulty. He ran there and with the handle of his sword hit hard on his head. That guy turned back to hit prithvi but prithvi gave a cut on his neck with his sword and he collapsed. Payal was breathing hard she tumbled for support. Prithvi held her from falling down.
Arjun reached there and he and pundir fought and killed two men. The one whom pundir hurt, got up and threw knife at Pundir. "Pundir" Payal shouted, Pundir moved and the knife passed few centimeters away from pundir's face. Being armless that guy started running in other direction. Pundir and Prithvi ran behind him.
"Usse marna mat, hume woh jinda chahiye." Shouted Prithvi.
That man ran as fast as possible. But Pundir took out the knife and threw at his leg and that guy crumbled hard on the ground.
Prithvi reached him and holding his sword on him, asked, "Kaun ho tum? batao."
Arjun, Payal and Pundir reached there suspiring heavily.
"Kiske aadmi ho tum? Hume kyun marna chaahte ho? Hamare baare mein kya jante ho?"
He was breathing fast and again tried to escape but arjun hold him.
"Yeh aaise nahi manega" saying this Arjun gave him a punch on his face. Blood slopped out through his mouth.
Prithvi hold him tight and said "Hume javaob do, hum tumhe chod denge."
That guy took few minutes to breathe, then all of a sudden started laughing.
"Nahi" Payal shouted. Prithvi tried to hold his hand, but it was too late, within no second he ate the poison from his ring and died on the spot.
No one could do anything, they just watched him. Prithvi catched his breath and looked around it was evening. Sun was setting.
Four of them did not move for few minutes then Pundir got up. He turned towards Payal and asked "Tumhe jyada chot toh nahi aayi?"
"Nahi." She answered watching the dead guy on the ground. She got a minor cut on the knee when she fall down. Otherwise she was always saved from getting hurt by one of the three.
"Tum thik ho naa, Payal?" Prithvi too asked her, getting up.
"Ha, hum bilkul thik hai." Now she looked around.
All were soaked in sweat.
"Inke aur bhi aadmi yaha ho sakte hai." said Arjun leaning on the tree.
"Ha ho sakte hai, par tambu mein toh koi nahi tha." Prithvi said. He received a hard blow on his back. Streching his hands back, he gave out a sigh of pain.
"Jaha tak mujhe pata hai," Payal said slowly moving close to them. "yeh log phaile hue hai."
Hearing her it clicked to Prithvi that he had many questions for her. But before he began, Pundir asked with concern "Payal tum waha, unke tambu ke yaha, kar kya rahi thi?"
"Hum unki baatein chupke se sunne ki koshish kar rahe the." Even she leaned on the same tree.
"Kya??" Pundir and Arjun together.
"Kya suna tumne?" Prithvi asked.
"Keh rahe the kuch mila nahi aur jaankari milte hi Kuch logon ko khatam karne ki baat kar rahe the."
"Ha.....Hum logon ko..."said Arjun pointing at himself, Prithvi and Pundir, as if he is talking of some award they received.
"Kya???" cried Payal. She stood straight. "Ha woh Delhi kar ke kuch keh rahe the... toh jo gadbad....."
"Payal....."Prithvi interrupted remembering his conversation with her. "kal jin logon ne tumhe marne ki koshish ki, woh inhi logon mein se the, hai naa?"
"Ha unmese ek ko maine isske saath dekha." She pointed at the dead guy lying on the ground near their feet. "Jab se iss utsaav mein aaye hai, tabse hume inpe shak tha. Hum hamesha inpe nazar rakhe the."
Pundir bend down and examined that thin and long man's pockets, clothes and hands for any kind of mark. So did Arjun and Prithvi of others lying around. No clue fell in their hands. They moved and buried thoses bodies in a ditch near by.
They started moving back towards the camp.
"Payal, inn sabko tum pehchanti ho?" Arjun asked dusting his clothes.
"Nahi, hum sabko toh nahi pehchante. Bahot logon ko toh hum pehli baar dekh rahe hai. Aur inke saath ek badasa ganjasa aadmi tha. Woh toh hume kal sham se kahi dikhai nahi de raha hai." said Payal wiping her face with duppatta.
"Toh inke aur bhi log yaha hai." said Prithvi nodding head. Payal looked sad. She was disappointed with her lack of information.
"Par Payal, yeh log tumhe marna kyun chahte the ?" asked Pundir who was walking behind her.
"Kyunki shaayad humne unka yeh sandesh churaya hai." payal took out the sandesh hanged on her waist. They stopped.
"Sandesh??" Prithvi led out his hand. She gave him.
Prithvi unfolded it and read it in his mind ....."Kaam ho gaya..... ve log yaha se gujarne wale hai. unhe yaha le aaenge." He thought on it and passed the letter to Pundir who read and passed it to Arjun.
"Toh hume iss utsaav mein le aane ki inki chaal thi." said Arjun folding the letter.
"Ha...aur Hosakta hai uttar ki aur jane wala rasta inhone hi band kiya ho." said Pundir.
"Tum Pul tutne ki baat kar rahe ho, hai naa? Ha woh koi hadsa nahi tha, woh jaan buchke hi toda gaya hai, ha." Payal spoke with excitment in one breathe.
Arjun turned towards Prithvi and concluded "Toh Delhi ne aapni chaal badli yeh inhe pata chal gaya." He smiled and added "Tumhara shak sahi nikla."
Prithvi: "Ha par lagta hai yaha inhe der ho gayi. Varna yeh hume Panshet gaon mein hi nakaam karne ki koshish karte."
Pundir smiled and said "Nakaam toh yeh log hume yaha bhi nahi kar payenge. Hume yaha laake, ya hamare tambu ki talashi leke kya mila inhe?" Three of them smiled satisfactorily.
Payal who was unable to catch up with their conversation asked "Yeh kya keh rahe ho tum log?"
Prithvi: "Payal, Delhi ke jasus seetapur se gujarne wale hai, iss baat ka pata inhe chal chuka tha."
Payal (thinking something): "Toh kya Delhi ke jasuson ko marna chahte the yeh log?"
Pundir: "Uss se jyada unke pass jo delhi ke ek khass yojna ki jankari thi, woh hasil karna chahte the yeh log."
Payal: "Kyun aaisa?"
Prithvi: "Taki Delhi ko kamjor karke, apni agli chaal chale." Prithvi avoided telling her the actual reason.
Delhi's Intelligence system was Delhi's strength. Though it weekend later, in the beginning it was powerful tool for Delhi to Keep informed about its enemy and their actions. In this mission Prithvi had made some very important plans with them. Documents which they carried till Seetapur had all this information and identification of thier detectives from all over the empire.
Payal: "Ha toh aage?" she asked them to continue, as if they are narrating a fairy tale.
"Tohhh..." Arjun patted on the message and said "'Kaam ho gaya' matlab 'Pul tut gaya, rasta band kar diya'."
He unfolded the letter and read again "'ve log yaha se gujarne wale hai. unhe yaha le aaenge.'... Hum yaha se gujar hi rahe the aur lo, hume yaha woh le aaye." he spread his hands and bowed down, accepting the fact that they have been trapped by their enemy.
"Par tum logon ko iss utsaav mein lane ki kya padi thi inhe? Yeh log raste mein bhi toh tumhe rok sakte the?
Pundir: "Nahi..... kyuniki Delhi ke jasus aakhir kaun log hai yehi inhe pata nahi tha." He looked at Prithvi "Ya shayad abhi bhi pata nahi chala inhe."
Prithvi had changed the whole plan. His men who were actually going for the mission, were asked to stay back in Delhi since their enemy got to know about them and their plan.
Prithvi: "Aur inke pass yahi waqt tha."
Payal: "Isliye woh tumhare saath saath sare musafiron ko yaha le aaye....." She smirked and said "Kya sanki log hai!"
Arjun: "Ha sanki toh yeh hai hi."
Whatever it was, somewhere from his heart Prithvi wished to thank his enemy for bringing him here. Because of him he again met his Sanyogita. He saw her, talked to her, fought with her. His life was charged. Otherwise how was it possible? He had promised her he won't come in her way. Purposefully he would have never landed himself here.
Nobody spoke all were busy thinking. Then Payal again raised question "Par kuch log wapas dakshin matlab panshet bhi toh ja sakte the."
Arjun: "Nahi inhe shaayad pakka yakin tha, hum wapas nahi mudenge. Kyunki humhe waha khatra tha."
Payal: "Yehi baat thi toh, Delhi ke liye dusra lamba rasta hai, tum log woh rasta bhi toh chun sakte the?" She put forward another doubt.
Prithvi: "Ek hi baat hoti Payal, yaha nahi toh waha pakad lete woh hume. Mujhe pura yakeen hai jaal dono raston pe bichaya hai inn logone."
He exchanged uncomfortable looks with Pundir and Arjun. Same thought occured in their mind. They all worried about Sanjam. He took the same road ahead through the collasped bridge considering that their enemy will not think of this possibility. Somehow he must have managed it, but still they hope he is fine. What if he someone attacks him there. His smiling face came in front of Prithvi's eyes. They prayed for his safety. But non of them spoke about it, otherwise it would have appeared that they are doubting Sanjam's capability, which would be an insult to him in his absence.
Payal: "Phir woh tumhari jaankari, kagjaad vagera?" Payal shook them from their thoughts. Now she showed more interest in their matter.
Prithvi: "Tum uski phikar mat karo Payal." He thought now it was enough. They had shared a lot of information with her. But it was necessary to confirm some doubts.
Payal: "Toh jo gadbad hume lag rahi thi woh tum logon ke liye thi. wahhhhh....." she sighed with relief "Aur hume laga, yeh Nagaon ke koi dushman hai. Toh ab utsaav mein aaye hue log kisi khatre mein nahi hai naa?" she asked Prithvi.
Prithvi: "Kuch keh nahi sakte, yeh log kisi bhi hadd tak ja sakte hai."
"Par yeh kaun dushman hai tumhare?"
"Issi baat ka toh pata lagana hai........ek pakka sabut chahiye unhe muh tod jawab dene ke liye." said Prithvi closing his fist tight.
"Kahi nagaon toh nahi...." Pundir raised a doubt.
"Nahi Nagaon nahi" Payal said quickly shaking her head.
Prithvi set loose his fist and said: "Nagaon toh nahi Pundir..... yojna pe nikalne se pehle, Nagaon se, gehu ke vyapar ke silsile mein niyota aaya tha Delhi ko."
Arjun: "Phir Delhi se kya jawab gaya?"
"Maa dekh rahi hai yeh sab...... Ha hi hoga."
Payal: "Kya sach mein?" she asked happily.
Prithvi: "Ha..." He wondered about her excitement.
Pundir: "Par ab yeh jo bhi hamare dushman hai..... inko dhundenge kaise?"
Prithvi: "Inke hamle ka intazaar karte hai. Tabhi hum inhe pakad payenge, kya khayal hai?" He asked Arjun and Pundir.
Pundir: "Ha Unhike chaal se unko hi maat deni hai.......Aur Payal tumhe koi nazar aaye, jis pe shak ho, toh hume jarur batana."
"Ha..... bilkul....." Payal cried excitedly. "Ab hum inhe jarur dhundenge."
Prithvi: "Nahi Payal, tumhare jaan ko abhi bhi khatra hai, aur yeh ......"
"Prithvi, kya tum logon ke hote hue hume kisise darne ki jarurat hai?" She smiled and looked at three of them. She knew they will definitely accept her in their team.
"Par Payal....." Prithvi again started.
"Bolo.....hume jarurat hai kisise darne ki?" Payal turned towards Pundir.
"Nahi." Pundir replied. Prithvi saw Pundir's face glowed with pride.
Prithvi thought of Sanyogita and yatra. So many times they faced trouble and danger together, when he tried to trap chakradhar, in jungle when Bhimdev's sainik tried to attack them, each time she relied on him. And as he thought of this, he felt her nearness in the same way as he felt then, when she ran towards him for safety, showing faith in him. This attitude and behaviour of her, gave him unexplained confidence to defeat his enemy. It was one of the reasons, according to him, that he was able to save Shivling. Her confidence in him helped him to succeed. Thinking of her, smile spread across his face.
"Arey Pundir tumhe toh chot aayi hai." Payal moved towards him and hold his arm, where his sleeve was soaked in blood. Prithvi came back in present.
"Kuch nahi itna toh hota hi hai."
"Kuch nahi kaise........." saying this she tried to tear her duppatta. But she could not.
Watching her struggle, Prithvi took out long piece of cloth tied to his waist as a belt and said "Lao yeh mein baandh deta hu."
"Hum baandhte hai lao." said Payal quickly taking it from Prithvi. Pundir stared at her.
Arjun giggled and Prithvi got a hint that something's going on. Through gestures he asked Arjun what's happening?
Arjun smiled and moved his hand horizontally across his neck indicating "Yeh toh gaya." Prithvi grinned looking from Payal to Pundir.
"Ab thik hai....." Payal asked. Pundir did not answer and even Payal did not expect any reply from him.
Prithvi placed his hands on their shoulders and said "Aaaaaaa.......Payal......Pundir.......Chale.....baki baatein tambu me kar lena...thik hai".
"Ha chalo, humne kab mana kiya." and they all started moving back.
Sun had set. It was dark now though violet and pink shade filled the sky above. Chirping of birds and sound of insects echoed through the trees. While going back they realized how far they came in the trees. They were deep inside near the foot of the hill. There they saw a cave like opening. "Kya hua Payal?" Pundir asked when he saw her peeping in and she wondered "Yaha kya hai?"
Even Arjun stopped outside it. "Ab kya janvaron ki baatein chup chup ke sunani hai tumhe?" "Hum aaise hi dekh rahe the. Hume nahi lagta waha koi janwar hoga, waise bhi kitna andhera hai waha pe."
"Ab chale ..... ya aander jake sair karne ke irada hai?" Prithvi asked Payal and Arjun who were curiously moving inside.
"Nahi chalte hai..... mujhe bhuk lagi hai, kuch khane ka dekhte hai." Arjun suddenly remembered he was hungry.
They started walking.
"Tumhe khane ke aalava aur kuch sujta nahi hai kya?" Payal asked who was walking with Pundir behind Arjun and Prithvi.
"Ab bhuk lagi hai toh mein kya karu?" Arjun replied rudely turning back.
"Bechari woh ladki jo tumse shaadi karegi." said Payal in a teasing tone.
"Bechari nahi hai bahot kismatwali hai Maya, jo usse mein mila hu." Arjun said proudly, broadening his shoulder.
Payal: "Maya??"
Pundir: "Iski patni."
"Ha, bahot pyaari hai aur achha khana bhi banati hai." Arjun said and blushed when Prithvi looked at him.
"Phir se khana!!!" Payal pursed her lips. Prithvi smiled.
"Waise ek baat toh hai," Prithvi slowed down and by placing his hand across Arjun's shoulder said "Arjun ke dil ka rasta uske pet se hai, yeh Maya ne khup pehchana." They laughed together.
"Aur tumhare dil ka Pundir?" Very innocently and without any prior thought Payal asked.
Pundir who was still laughing, tried to answer "Mere dil ka toh........" Then he realized what the question was. Being non-plussed he turned towards Payal and said "Mere dil Ka???"
Prithvi and Arjun brusted out in laughter, leaning on each other.
Payal looked embarassed. Trying to make her face plain she said "Humara matlab hai ke..... aaaaa..."
"Ha batao..... kya matlab hai tumhara?" Prithvi asked, who was trying to bring his laughter at rest.
"Kuch nahi chalo..... chalte hai..... bahot der ho gayi hai." She moved ahead of them hiding her awkward expressions.
When Arjun and Prithvi looked at Pundir, he blushed saying "Kya?" and pushed them forward.
