i would accept the recommendation factor if its from a good person n for good reason, but accepting recommendation from a man like SS is always danger... we should choose between ppl... who might suit us...whoever it might be....

Ok....ok....... sheeshh dont flood the forum 😛since you are our one & only Tanths 😉, my answer is no its not wrong. Job and college applications these days ask for references & recomendations so its part of the process 😃 However, one should be careful who you choose because ultimately, its your reputation on the line...... did that make sense?

I think there is nothing wrong in recommendation in getting a job, school placement, better opportunities but giving bribes to get a job, school placement or whatever should be condemned...
Promotion and head hunting is not based on interviews but mostly by recommendations and networking...An more hard working and honest employee will miss out because of his beliefs based on idealistic views...

If you ask me then nothing in life comes for free...There is always a price to pay whether in gratitude, monetary terms or any other means...By not accepting it you pay the price of losing the only opportunity of missing out on that college..Both are risks and one has to make a choice as to which has the greater benefit in the long term

Interesting post tanths.
Here's my thoughts -
When you add references to your CV's, arent you automatically agreeing to accept a job based on recommendation? In my case it was through a recommendation that got me my first job, but its my hard-work thats kept me in that job. So personally i dont have an issue with accepting a role based on recommendation.
Let me skew this picture a bit !! You accepted this job alright ..now u and another candidate who is less deserving [in ur opinion] are vying for a promotion...U know that this candidate is a pet of the officer who holds the key to ur promotion , at this juncture..there comes a powerful person who is not asking anything of u but with dubious background ..he steps forward to get u promoted without u seeking his help...and u r granted the promotion..what will u do ??
Regarding promotions, you will rely on your manager to recommend you for a promotion, and its this recommendation i believe that tends to out way whether an individual is hard-working or not. The saying 'It's not what you know, it's who you know' holds true in a lot of cases.
One of the precious gifts we humans have is free will. As SS said to Adarsh, he never forced Adarsh to accept the promotion. He presented an opportunity for Adarsh to further his career and Adarsh exercised his free will and took it.
