But suppose you have got a seat in a prestigious college , a college you always dreamt of studying but knew that you will never make it and then comes a window of hope..A person like Ss comes into the pic..he is not asking anything from you..but gets you the seat ..will u accept ?? remember this was the seat u so desperately wanted and one you will will never get except for this one golden unforseen opportunity..

Since u've asked me pointblank,I'll think abt all possibilities but final outcome would be no... i seriously take this as a test to my idealistic belief...u guys may not believe me[sathya, u may be thinking, iam just saying it for the sake of saying] but the truth is this.. i will not allow any act tht makes me guilty n less deserving.wrong is wrong for me... my hubby used to tease me a lot with this..but he knows me...i hv a personal story based on this, but not here,n now... I would like to bring upon Mahathma Gandhiji n Dr. Abdul kalam - both r perfect example for idealists....

Alright, Babs ..Thanks for ur honesty ..But one thing though..what if that seat went to a candidate who was less deserving than you ...

wait a sec..let me add Melodrama ..what if your family are all for it ??

lets leave out the National Heroes ..They became Heroes after experiencing all the vices and learning from it and overcoming it ..they were not idealists..

If you ask me then nothing in life comes for free...There is always a price to pay whether in gratitude, monetary terms or any other means...By not accepting it you pay the price of losing the only opportunity of missing out on that college..Both are risks and one has to make a choice as to which has the greater benefit in the long term

Interesting post tanths.

Here's my thoughts -
When you add references to your CV's, arent you automatically agreeing to accept a job based on recommendation? In my case it was through a recommendation that got me my first job, but its my hard-work thats kept me in that job. So personally i dont have an issue with accepting a role based on recommendation.

Regarding promotions, you will rely on your manager to recommend you for a promotion, and its this recommendation i believe that tends to out way whether an individual is hard-working or not. The saying 'It's not what you know, it's who you know' holds true in a lot of cases.

One of the precious gifts we humans have is free will. As SS said to Adarsh, he never forced Adarsh to accept the promotion. He presented an opportunity for Adarsh to further his career and Adarsh exercised his free will and took it.

i think u have to see y he got reccomended coz if im hard working n at a job sum1 noticed n reccomend me there is no harm in that but in adhrash case he was not reccomended coz he hard working n was not reccomended by a person u has respect he was reccomended by SS, and did not get the promotion coz he hard working but for the fact he is the son in law of SS and was promoted out of terror coz SS would prob killed the person if he didnt. hoping u all can c that there is a big diff n y shamu is agaist this adhrash has not workde hard for this and considering it not fair i mean if i worked in office n so did person X. im hard working n dedicated. there a promotion up for grabs n person X has recived this coz he got contact but not fr his hard work i would be mad because jus coz he nws pepole he get promoted but i work hard n get nuttin!

If NO ..Do you Think then that Idealism can only be preached but can never be practiced to the T

What is your Opinion..A sincere and Honest opinion is welcome...

Tanthswa..! Shocked seeing a serious post from you...😲. Immensely thought provoking and everyone can relate to.. 👍🏼

I heard or read somewhere that the rich and successful people will answer in affirmative to your first question..😉

The other question whether Idealism can ever be practiced to the fullest has a lot of Ifs and buts and actually is relative to a lot of things/people and if we can even define idealism in its absolute form.

Anyhow without getting into debate about which option is moral and which isn't it is important that a person accept to live with the consequences of the path they choose to tread on whether it renders to be a right choice for them or a failed attempt. It could go either way no matter which path is chosen.

If we talk about Adarshwa, he seems to be happy and excited with SS giving him leg up and elevating his career position and financial windfall that followed even if it meant to be indebted to SS for lifetime. If he doesn't get into trouble with the law he will probably remain happy with his choice.. But tomorrow if he looses his status, career and family and this is very probable scenario that might happen, he should accept the consequences.

The bottom line is we cannot judge for other people. The choices are there for everyone to make and the possibility of outcome expected and not expected is out in the open.

I think one should always first try to get to any position on thr own..it is not neccessary for some1 to get the highest paying job or the go to the best best if it means using sources
Sources should always be the last resort and as mentioned by one of the members we have to be careful with the source we use as if it some1 like Sajjan Singh they will ask for a favour which may not be able to fulfill
I think a person should live in the middle of practical and ideal lives..but none can be lived to the extreme
