Baba's digging himself into a pit and its only going to get deeper. And the sad thing is no ones going to hear him out when the whole issue blows over because they'll be too busy accusing him and pratigya. I think Baba's an impulsive guy who thinks in the moment and not long term. Unfortunately, this impulsive habit may cause him to lose his families trust. I'm not sure why he's lying but then again like you said he may just be trying to protect pratigya in his own way.
