Says Sajid Khan, "Initially Fardeen and Akshay were awkward with each other. Each thought the other had too much attitude. Then as the ice broke and they gradually realised that they actually are the same.
Both are family-oriented boys and very attached to their mothers. In fact, their mothers would often send ghar ka khana to the sets.
At one such time, Akshay broke one of his golden rules — no eating after 8 pm — and tucked into rich food from Fardeen's dabba."
Potato pal
As you say, hum toh maata ke bhakt hain: Akshay Kumar
Sajid says that Akshay doesn't eat heavy food at night and is a stickler for healthy eating. "But on that particular day, Fardeen's mother Sundari had sent across some delicious Mughlai food like mutton paya, biryani and prawns in rich gravy for lunch.
However, it reached around 4 pm and we had already resumed shooting.
When we packed up for the night at around 10 pm, and since Fardeen's dabba was still untouched, Akshay insisted that we sit and eat before heading home.
He really relished the food. The next day, Akshay's mother sent a dabba that consisted of light, oil-free food and Fardeen, who is on a weight-loss trip, tucked into that," says the director, amused.
Sajid's theory is that they are all mammas' boys and that's why there was such great bonding amongst them.
"Sajid Nadiadwala, Akshay, Fardeen and Riteish (Deshmukh) are all mamma's boys.
The fact that we all love our mothers and still live with them speaks volumes! The chemistry between Akshay, Fardeen and Riteish is to be seen to be believed and far superior to that of Aamir, Saif and Akshaye in Dil Chahta Hai.
In real life too they have become very good friends."
Sajid even came up with a special name for Riteish after their many discussions on food. "I called him aloo – the potato because Riteish bonds with just about everybody.
He is like the aloo that can be put into any dish — non veg and veg — and blends beautifully with any group."
Chalo mooh kholo! Sundari and Fardeen Khan
