Is it through your husband's identity? Or is through your job? Or is through your values? ... or what?

Shouldn't your identity be you as an individual - your qualities and achievements

How about if you have no achievements? None whatsoever?
Then what?

I like identity based on qualities. But what does that mean exactly? Is it one's values??

Every person's identity defination changes with time and circumstances...when we are child we are idnetified with the identity our parents has given us...we are this and this couple's child
When we get married we are identified with our in-laws and specially husband's identity...we are this family's bahu or his's wife Mrs. whatever

In our workplace we are identified by our work and designation

Many a times people are identified for their excellence in certain areas...now it's individual choice whether she wants to be identified as some individual or is happy to be identified with someone's else personality
I feel values can not give us identity after certain limits...i am not saying value is important but it's not the main component or enough for someone to get an individual identity...it just enhances our identity...we have many successful women who have made an identity for themsleves but do we know how their values are?

I guess its a mix of personality and values, achievements can be big or small, I doubt that nobody has zero achievements it just depends what you think of as an achievement as to someone else who thinks its nothing.
Identity through family, husband, wife, kids is just weird because nobody really gives it importance except you and family, husband etc. if a husband as a fantastic position in society then who is gonna really care if your the wife of so and so as they are more interested in the husband in question who they can benefit from.

I believe it is values. They eventually become ones identity.

That is how i evaluate a person and so i guess people(in real world) evaluate me by them!

I would like to be defined by my qualities both good and bad as well as achievements and failures.
-----------
Something I heard my father say long time back when he came to visit me in my college. Since nobody knew who he was he was simply referred to as so and so's father and it made him very happy and proud to be simply known as my father.
When I heard that it made me happy that I managed to make my father proud to be referred as just my father.

When there is love in that relationship and pride in your loved one I don't think it would matter if you are just referred to as somebody's wife.

First your identity comes thru your parents nd over the years you will try to improvise yourself, learn from your mistakes and become a better person .

I think that our identity changes with time and place - like in childhood we are known as so and so's daughter, then as a student of so and so school- [a part of any sports team - a good singer/dancer/debater etc. if we are good in these activities], in workplace by the job profile/post and at least for some time after marriage - as wife of so and so (even well qualified working ladies are known as Mrs. so and so in their new home). If a lady is not working, still she may have her own identity in the form of some special qualities and values etc. but generally people define your identity with either your job or your parentage/husband.
How a lady defines her own identity and how people generally define her may be different, needless to mention that how people define you becomes how you are known in society.
