Interesting question and here is my 2 cents to it.

Everyone is born with their identity of their own. They are individuals by their own right. But as they grow, through the conditioning of the society, especially for women, they start associating their identity with their father, and then husband.

But in actual truth or reality, your identity is your own, which is shaped up by your thoughts, your methods of approaching life, your values in life, and other small things you do.

You need not have the job to have an identity, but being an housewife also you can make your presence felt.

I remember my mom told me when her sister in law died, many people came to pay homage and respect to her, as they at one point in time were helped in some form or other by her. Then her brother commented to her for first time I realized my wife has an identity of her own.

So an identity is by being yourself and not allowing yourself to be defined purely by your husband, father or others and be able to judge for yourself rationally what is right or what is wrong.

Every person in this universe is unique...this uniqueness of an individual is the identity of a person.

We have two dimensions in life. Primary dimensions mainly composed of : our skin color, our eyes and nose , and our hair colors. Nobody has control on these primary dimensions as we cannot change these.
Our secondary dimentions include our education, our married life, our values, where we live, what we wear, our friends, which car we drive, our job, our ethics, our kids ...i mean all those things where we can have control and we can change.

So, a combination of primary and secondary dimensions gives a person uniqueness and this uniqueness is the identity of an individual.

We, in this universe, are not different from each other , rather we all are unique.
