CHAPTER-19.

"May I come in sir?"Astha's soft voice broke into Shlok's thoughts.

A bit taken aback,he looked up at Astha,standing outside the now open cabin door..

What is she doing here so soon?Being her normal nature,I'd have thought she would have run home by now,just to be away from me!

"Come in.."He said automatically.

He could not help but frown at her stance..There was something different about her..But he could not put his finger to the cause of it..

Silently he watched Astha walk into the cabin..

The door automatically closed shut behind her,an uncomfortable silence following it.

Shlok did not move or respond,but quietly studied her..She was not looking at him directly,or deliberately avoiding his eyes

Finally she looked up and hazel ones met his dark ones..

Shlok inhaled a startled breath..

Her eyes were burning with a new light..A strange light..

"What will be my chore,sir?"She said in a strong voice..

Her voice also suddenly sounded different,he realised.

He was too taken aback,by the subtle,yet definite change in her..How could she look and act so indifferent now,while only minutes ago,she was melting in his arms..

"Excuse me sir?If you would like to day dream,should I come later on?I think you will pay me for working,not for being your personal cabin mannequin.."She gritted out through clenched teeth,but sugar coated it with a sweet smile..

Too sweet,Shlok thought with a startled chuckle..

He had thought,she would come running with resignation,after that incident..It was a good thing,she had saved him and herself the trouble..Shlok did not want to go to the hassle of explaining her why and how she was bound to work in this office,under him, for five years..

"Although I'd prefer you as MY personal mannequin,not my cabin's..But let's get to work.."

Astha, though a bit taken aback by his words,could not respond properly,as suddenly he started giving a long flow of instructions..

BANG!!!

"Astha beta!Where are you running to?Freshen up first!!"

"Ayi!I have to ask baba about something first!"

Instantly Kalindi's eyes gittered with unshed tears,and she turned away..Trying her best to ignore the painful squeeze at her heart..

She already missed her mother-in-law's calming presence,who had gone to the temple..She hoped prayers worked faster than medicines..

"Baba!I have to ask you,shouldn't we always keep our personal and official life separate?I mean.."

"Of course beta!Isn't that what I taught you?"Avdhoot said with a loving smile,making Astha's eyes shine with happiness.

"So I was right in not resigning..Thank you baba!"Astha hugged him tightly as he hugged her back.

"But resign..?Astha beta!What happened?You know you can tell me!You can always share everything with me..What happened sweetheart..?"Avdhoot cupped her cheeks lovingly..

"Of course I'll tell you..You know how I loathe that Agnihotri..He became my boss and.."Astha explained to Avdhoot all except the hot moments they had exchanged..

"Shlok!Can you catch me?!Come on!"

"Sneha!It's dark!Come out now!Or else the dayan on that mango tree will get you!!

Sound of childish laughter echoed around the darkening garden..

"I know it's you who is scared!Come on find me!I DARE YOU!"

"Scared?!Who is scared?!I'm not scared!I'm coming for you.."

SNAP!!!

"HELP!!!"

Shlok ran towards the sound of the fallen tree branch..

"SNEHA!!!"

As soon as he reached her,Shlok saw lots of blood as they seeped in through the garden floor..

"Oh my God Sneha!HELP someone!Ayi!Baba!Dada!SNEHA HAS-.."

A giggling sound broke his sentence in the middle..

"It's color stupid!See I did prove you are a scared cat!"She pulled out her tongue at him,and ran away giggling leaving behind an angry Shlok..

"SNEHA!WAIT!I'll get you for this!!!"He ran after her..

Suddenly the scene changed,as he kept running..

He was now running through a dark road..It was raining heavily..

Shlok wiped away rain drops from his face to clear his vision..He could barely see..

Suddenly the masked beauty from the masquerade party was standing infront of him..

"Won't you dance with me..?"She whispered seductively,and held out her soft hand forward..

Mesmerised Shlok took her hand,and touched her soft one..

A strange current passed through his body,making him pull her closer..

His eyes were captivated by her full soft rosy lips,the only feature visible under that half mask..He wanted to see her face completely this time when he kissed her..

Devoid of that mask,which hid her face and identity from him..

Caressing her cheeks softly,he started pulling the mask away..Slowly..Carefully..Least she would vanish like the first time,like Cinderella from the ball..

She was breathing heavily,and her hands clasped onto his suit front..

Shlok could feel her heavy breathing,her eagerness,and her aroused senses which were at the same level as his..

Oh how long he had waited to unmask his Cinderella at the party..

"Shlok.."

"You know me..Do you Cinderella..?"He said huskily,as his fingers slowly untied the ribbons holding the half mask at place..

To his amazement she shook her head in denial..Her eyes still wide in awe,below the mask..

"You don't..?!"His fingers stopped moving..He frowned in confusion.."Then who is calling me..?!"

"Shlok..!"He heard it again..

Slowly his masked Cinderella freed herself from his arms..Before Shlok could hold her she turned and started to fade..

"WAIT!DON'T LEAVE!I want to see you again!Tell me your name!"The ethereal masked Cinderella turned slightly and gave him a soft magical,mysterious and breathtaking smile..

"Shlok..!"Someone was calling him,but he could not take his eyes away from his Cinderella..She was again vanishing without leaving him a single clue about herself..

"Wait!Please!"Shlok screamed out in vain..

And just before she started to vanish,she raised her hand and pointed somewhere behind his shoulder..And finally with a last mesmerising smile,she faded into thin air..

"NO!!!Not again!"Shlok groaned out,when he heard it again.

"Shlok..!Please help me..!"The voice sobbed out from behind him.

Finally he turned..A figure lay on the road..A broken looking figure..

He walked closer..The rain had stopped,and the figure lay just below a street light..

SLOP!SLOP!SLOP!

His feet made strange noises,as he walked towards the figure..

Irritated he looked down to see the cause..

His eyes widened,and he inhaled a long breath..

He was walking through a river of blood!!!
