TOXIC is the story of A Man Drowning in His Own Guilt

⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD. This thread is going deep into the story, characters, symbolism and the psychology of Raya.
I went into Toxic with absolutely no expectations.
I came out stunned. And, honestly, a little shaken.
Is the film flawless? No. The editing can be uneven, some of the stylised action feels unnecessary, and at places the spectacle becomes louder than the story actually needs.
But Raya stayed with me....
Because beneath all the guns, blood, swagger and larger-than-life action, Toxic is ultimately a deeply painful story about guilt, trauma, love, loss and the desperate need for a closure that may never come.
Raya is not a man who doesn't know what he is.
He knows.
He knows he is violent. Possessive. Controlling. He knows that the way he loves can become toxic. He knows the damage he causes. Somewhere inside himself, he deeply hates the person he has become.
And yet...
how could Raya have become anyone else?
He never knew how to be anyone else ever since he was a child...
His mother killed his father for her cruel selfish reasons.
His mother tried to sell Ganga, his elder sister who was his entire world.
He had to kill his own mother to save his sister.
What language of love was he supposed to learn after that? And from whom?
For Raya, violence and protection became intertwined very early in life. If you loved someone, you protected them. If someone threatened them, you destroyed the threat. Survival became love's closest substitute.
And that is where his tragedy begins.
He loves deeply. Fiercely. Passionately. But he never really learns how to love.
He knows how to protect people. He doesn't know how to simply stay.
He knows how to fight for someone. He doesn't know how to listen to them.
He knows how to possess. He doesn't know how to let someone be free.
And eventually, the very instincts that helped him survive become the things that destroy the people he loves most.and eventually himself..
That's why I don't see Toxic merely as a gangster film.
I see it as the story of a man who spent his entire life running from his wounds, only to discover that the thing chasing him was himself.
The black horses.
The white doves.
The collapsing circus.
The bathtub.
Ticket.
Ganga.
Nadia.
There is so much beneath the surface of this film.
So this thread isn't going to be a plot summary.
It's about Raya.
The boy he was.
The man he became.
The people he loved.
The people he couldn't save.
The guilt he couldn't outrun.
And the devastating question at the heart of it all....
What happens when a man who has spent his entire life trying to protect everyone finally realizes that he couldn't protect anyone… and that, directly or indirectly, he became part of the reason they were lost?
Let's talk about Toxic. 🖤
