Ashwatthama was hyper at Duryodhan when he taunted Drona as he was unable to capture Yudhi. This ended only after his father was killed. And Ashwatthama was neutral even after Dushasana was killed. He even asked Dury to forget everything and develop friendship with the pandavas and became vengeful only after his father was decreased.

No, that was one more BRC invention. Duryodhan said nothing when Dushashan was killed, since everybody was fighting someone or the other. Karna had defeated Yudisthir, and had been clobbered by Bhima. Arjun was just arriving on the scene, and Ashwatthama was busy somewhere, fighting either Shikhandi or some other ruler he was going to kill.

He became grief stricken seeing Duryodhan lying wounded after his battle w/ Bhima. However, he was furious way b4 that. On day 15, when Kripa told him about Drona's death, Ashwatthama released the Narayanastra on the entire Pandava army, which Krishna enabled them to diffuse by surrendering to it.

But yeah, Drona's death was the turning point in Ashwatthama's relationship w/ the Pandavas.
