Tarun Tejpal, the Editor in Chief and one of the promoters of Tehelka magazine & portal,has been accused of molesting his colleague of his daughter's age.Since then, he has been evading police investigation on various counts like seeking more time to appear as also postulating that he would make himself available to the Goa police after due deliberations with his counsel. The incident bears on the day when this girl in question went to show her new article to the accused to get his approbation for the same . The lights of the room were turned off before her entry into the room hence she enquired of him whether it should be put on. The accused declined and instead of showing least interest in her work, he began to talk about sex & desire. Later, he drew her closer and squeezed her mammary gland to satisfy his lust.He also hinted that as an employer, she would be better off acquiescing to his advances. The girl felt that her modesty was outraged and left the house . She did talk about the incident with Tarun Tejpal's daughter who happens to be her good friend. When Tejpal came to know about the revelation, he mailed the girl chiding her that she doesn't understand the relationship of a father & daughter.There was an implied suggestion that such things should not be discussed bearing in mind the relationship of the former. This was the first instance of the incident.
The second incident happened during Goa fest in the lift.The video footage of cctv camera in the hotel revealed that he has taken girl inside the elevator and the girl is seen adjusting her clothes while coming out of the same.
Friends, we all know that Mr Tarun Tejpal is the one who essayed in bringing out the corruption cases during the BJP regime.The major ones were the coffin case in which the then Defence Minister Mr George Fernandes was reportedly involved while the other being sting operation on Bangaru Laxman with video clips showing him as accepting bribe.
The sophisticated accused has , however, suggested the consent of the girl in the incidents.He has stated that the first incident was a culmination of their excitment while watching a movie called Thunderbolt. I would like to bring to your notice that the accused is the author of a book called Alchemy of Desire dealing with the suffering of a rape victim & here's this man himself involved in such activity. In his defence regarding the second incident, he has indicated that the incident had no bearing as the girl went for party immediately thereafter.If something untoward had happened, she would not have remained normal.
The role played by Shoma Choudhry,the Managing Editor of Tehelka, after the incident came to light, has drawn sharp criticism.As a one, who has stood for feminist issues, she tried to do downplay the incidents and even tried to persuade the vitim to let it pass.However, as a saving grace for her, she relinquished her position after a lot of hue & cry by the social activists and fellow media colleagues.
Mr Tarun Tejpal is a renowned & sophisticated journalist and enjoys the patronage of the ruling party for he unearthed the corruption cases pertaining to the rival party. Further,he is also following the normal practice of pacifying , convincing the victim to withdraw the case in lieu of some hefty compensation. So, whether he would be convicted or not,only time will say.
Friends, I am fully aware this incident has no bearing with the show but since the show is recognised for propagating social message, I thought it appropriate to highlight this incident. Such is the apathy of indian woman that for men, she is still considred merely a toy of pleasure , her intelligence is easily ignored and what plays in the minds of these men including so called elite & intellectual, is her body & only body.
There are so many tales regarding the outrage of woman's modesty involving such people, but a few gets the media glare. What a shame & sham to such shallow intellect.
