Chapter 25
"You will have to fly to Hyderabad Geet, day after tomorrow" , said Dev, after finishing on the financials.
"Ok", she said.
"Here are your tickets", and he handed them over to her.
"Thanks!", she said.
"Veerji will have his tickets, so that should be fine!", he said.
"Kya? Woh bhi aa rahen hain?", asked Geet.
"Haan! Why are you so shocked?"
"Nothing ! It would be nice if you could come or Naintara could come", said Geet.
"well, we might come eventually. But Veerji will come first"
"ok!", she said, "Mujhe aapni zubaan bandh rakhni hogi", she murmured.
"Kya?", asked Dev.
"Kuch nahin. Hyderabad se aane ke baad mein shayad bolna bhool jau, please yaad dilana", she said, winking.
"Baath karte hain mere Veerji", said Dev, laughing and Geet was waiting for him to finish, "kabhi kabhi", he added, after looking at Geet's expression.
"Yahin to", she said, holding her forehead.
"Oh c'mon Geet! Now cheer up and have fun in Hyderabad. It's a beautiful city"
"Yeah yeah ofcourse. Naintara usi shehar se hain na, toh beautiful hain hi"
"Geet, you never know! Maybe you might find your love in that city too or someone might fall for you in that very city", he said, smiling broadly.
"Yeah right", she said, blushing a bit.
Geet came back to reality when her phone rang. She looked around and realized she had gone back a few years in time. She walked into the room to take the call. Daadiji was calling her.
"Geet beta u seem to have forgotten us, after getting to work. I was expecting your call this evening or afternoon", she said as Geet answered the call.
"Nahin Daadiji, I just came back and was having a cup of coffee. How can I forget anyone back in the mansion?", she said, literally meaning it.
"Ahaan! I like that. So how are you doing and how was your day?", she asked.
"I'm doing great and the day was very hectic", she said. She then went on to describe the entire day's activities and her interactions with various people. She even described her journey to office and back to the hotel room and how much Hyderabad had changed and how horrible the traffic was getting day by day.
Daadiji listened patiently, when Maan walked into her room and kissed her cheek.
Maan sat beside her and rested his head on her shoulder. He did not know whom she was talking to- so just waited for her to finish the call. He was sitting by the pool all this while and thinking back of all the good and bad times. Then he realized that he hadn't spent any time with his Daadima at all the whole day and she too never bothered to talk to him.
Geet went on and on and Daadiji did not interrupt her. It was only after an hour and a half that Geet realized that she had spoken too much.
"Daadiji, kamaaal hain aap. I spoke for over an hour. You should have stopped me. You should take rest", she said.
"Beta, that's what I do everyday- take rest! After Maan has taken over, I only rest", she said, "And can I stop you beta? Its always fun to hear you talk", she said, smiling.
Geet felt a little embarrassed. Maan smirked. He had to wait for an hour and a half to start talking to his Daadima because his beloved wife would not stop talking.
Daadiji ab main rakhti hoon. Aap dinner kijiye, medicines time pe lijiye aur please Maan se keh dijiye ki woh bhi time pe khaana khaye", she said.
"hum sab kuch time pe karenge, bas aap Maan se keh dijiye ki woh apna khayal rakhe. Hum zimmedaari nahin lenge", she said.
Geet smiled and said, "Theek hain Daadiji, chaliye main rakhti hoon"
"Geet's call", she said, hanging up.
"I understood the minute you managed to speak for over an hour and enjoyed it", he said, sarcastically.
"Oh I see. How understanding!", she said, with a lopsided smile.
"Yeah your genes you know!", he said and winked. She hit his shoulder gently, laughing.
"So, What brings you here? I heard you were taking time out, sitting by the poolside and missing Geet. She's back tomorrow night you know", she said, smirking.
He raised his eye-brow and said, "You're facts are not correct. I sit by the pool lot of times- while doing some office work or while relaxing and having a drink. It doesn't mean I'm missing someone or taking time out to miss someone"
"Oh I see- relaxing by the pool side huh?", she said, "And why only there?"
Before Maan could answer, Dev and Kiara came running in- with Kiara chasing Dev and screaming, "Arey Stop"
Maan rolled his eyes and said, "See, because of such loud screeching voices in the mansion- I'm forced to go out of the mansion to relax"
Kiara stopped midway and stared at Maan angrily, "Excuse me Veerji kya kahan aap ne?"
"Loud Screeching voices", repeated Dev and laughed hysterically. "Maanna padega Veerji, you come up with awesome constructive criticism. How do you manage?"
"Constructive criticism?", taunted Kiara. "Daadiji dekh rahen aap? Main yahan akeli hoon aur yeh log mere mazaak udhaa rahen hain"
"Kiara, humne shuru bhi nahin kiya", said Dev and Maan agreed, "He's right! We did not even start making fun sweetheart, take it easy"
"Theek hain", she said, "Fine!", she screamed into Dev's ears and walked out angrily.
"Pagal hain", said Dev and sat down when Kiara walked in again- she handed over the phone to Maan and said, "Bhabhi's call"
"Why did she call on your phone?", he asked.
"Because I complained", she screamed.
"Achha tuo aapke Geet bhabhi ab mujhe daategi?", he asked.
He placed the phone near his ear and said, "Oh my God, Geet don't do this- I'm already very very scared".
Dev and Daadiji laughed out even loudly when Geet shouted, "Chup rahiye aap. Yeh koi tareeka hain apne behen se baat karne ki. Har baath pe taana marna aapki aadat ho chuki hain. Mujhe nahin pata tha ki aap Kiara ko bhi satate hain. Hume laga woh sowbhagya sirf hamari hain"
Maan asked Kiara, "Do you need the phone immediately?"
"How long would you take?", asked a perplexed Kiara.
"I hope to return it to you by tomorrow morning", said Maan, with a lopsided smile.
"No thanks! I need my phone. Ask Geet bhabhi to call on your number", she said.
"Nahin- my phone is on roaming", yelled Geet from the other side- but Maan had cut the call by then and handed over the phone to Kiara. "I'll deal with you later. You'll repent calling your bhabhi and complaining", he said, walking out of the room. Kiara kept staring at his retreating form confused.
"Aapne phone kyun kiya- my phone is on roaming", yelled Geet answering the call.
"Geet- it is not going to hit my company's financial results", he said, sardonically.
"It will not- nothing hits your company and you", she said.
"What's your problem and what is that sowbhagya stuff you were talking about?", he asked.
"Kuch nahin", she said, "Aap khana theek se kha rahen hain ya nahin?", she asked, trying to change the topic.
"Geet, you're not that smart to make me forget my questions", he said.
She rolled her eyes and whispered, "Guroor"
"Haan, Maan Singh Khurana's guroor Geet"
"ok whatever. Rakhiye phone"
"Geet, how was your day?"
"Theek", she said.
"Aur?"
"Aur kya?", she asked
"Geet, I can't believe you don't have anything to tell me", he said
"I don't have anything to tell Mr. Khurana"
"Oh really? Then how is that you ended up talking for almost 2 hours to Daadima?", he asked.
"Because that's Daadiji and this is you"
"Wah, kya jawaab hain Geet. I'm sure such answers in college also must have got you those attractive grades know-impressing all your professors", he said.
"Maan", she said, softly and Maan realized at once he had spoken too much.
"So-", he was about to apologize and she stopped him, "Nahin Maan, don't apologize. I need to keep hearing it from people so that I remember never to make mistakes again"
"Geet, that's not what I meant- I just happened to say it in a flow"
"I know Maan- you did not mean to hurt me. I know", she said.
