He ranks as one of Indian cinema's leading actors and with over 80 films under his belt to boast of, Salman Khan still remains a highly sought after star in Bollywood. With a career spanning almost 25 years, Salman has established himself as not only an actor, but as a producer, a television presenter and a philanthropist who has been involved in several charities since rising to fame. Not to mention, Dabangg Khan can proudly boast of featuring in numerous Bollywood blockbusters that have placed him in Bollywood's A-list of actors. However, the actor has also been a part of several films that failed to impress critics and turned out to be box office disasters! Here's a list of the actor's 10 worst films in recent times!
Chal Mere Bhai (2000)
We wonder why David Dhawan would decide on casting big stars such as Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Karisma Kapoor for such a bore of a comedy! In the film, Salman Khan takes up the role of Prem Oberoi, an aspiring actor who falls in love with the same woman as his brother. The main issue with Chal Mere Bhai was its lack of humour and inability to capture the audience's attention. Chal Mere Bhai was finally declared a flop at the Indian box office.
Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge (2002)
We fail to understand why a Bengali remake of Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge was made in 2005! Directed by Pankaj Parashar, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge stars Salman Khan in the lead as Ali/Veer Singh Thauker, a young bachelor. With a cliched plot that was pretty predictable from the first action scene, the film failed to impress critics. Moreover, it was also a box office failure with an overall grossing of between INR 6-8 crores despite experiencing an average opening.
Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa (2004)
Unlike its Hollywood counterpart titled Return to Me (from which the synopsis was taken), Dil Ne Jise Apna turned out to be a dud at the box office and not to mention, didn't quite impress us, the movie-goers. Starring Salman Khan in the lead, along with Preity Zinta, Bhoomika Chawla, and Delnaaz Paul, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa remains as one of Salman's most unsuccessful films, grossing a mere INR 7 crores.
Kyon Ki (2005)
The Priyadarshan-directed romantic drama, Kyon Ki looked good at first sight, but as the plot slowly unraveled, we realised there was not too much to praise the film for. Salman Khan plays Anand, a young man deeply in love with a girl named Maya (Rimi Sen). Maya drowns to death before Anand goes insane and so on. The film was declared a flop at the Indian box office, leaving us to wonder why Salman would take up offers on such films!
Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar (2006)
Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar is a remake of the Tamil film Priyasakhi, which is probably why it is considered to be one of Salman Khan's worst films. Another 'overseas-shot' film, Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar was a box office failure as it lacked the necessary elements into making a proper love-drama story. The film was directed by K. S. Adhiyaman and also stars Shilpa Shetty as the co-lead actress.
Marigold (2007)
Starring Salman Khan and Hollywood actress Ali Larter, the 2007 romantic musical comedy Marigold just didn't impress the audience. We're guessing it's because the Indian film audience has become a little too familiar with the whole 'Indian boy falls in love with American girl' concept incorporated into Indian films. Marigold was a big-time box office flop, adding another 'black feather' to Sallu's cap.
God Tussi Great Ho (2008)
Whether the script for God Tussi Great Ho was copied from the Hollywood film Bruce Almighty, we'll never know. But what we do know is that it certainly wasn't one of Khan's best films. In fact, we can safely say it is among the 'worst' (which is obviously why we've included it in our list) films of his career. For those who have watched Bruce Almighty, you will notice a lot of similarities in God Tussi Great Ho's storyline and that, could simply annoy you! The film was a complete flop, with its only saving grace being a few single screen theatres.
Yuvvraaj (2008)
Another one of Salman's worst films would have to be the 2008 film Yuvraaj directed and produced by Subhash Ghai. The plot revolves around three brothers who do their best to con each other in order to inherit their father's large wealth. Not to say Yuvraaj was a terrible film, but it wasn't able to live up to the audience's expectations. Yuvraaj was finally declared a box office bomb!
London Dreams (2009)
Directed by Vipul Shah, the 2009 Bollywood musical comedy London Dreams starring Salman Khan (and Ajay Devgan) turned out to be one of the actor's least impressive films! Noted critic criticised the film quoting it as a "frustratingly foolish film about foolish people." The climax to London Dreams was a disaster and that took a lot of points away from what could have been a 'decent' film. Further, it was considered a box office flop with a gross total of INR 41, 00, 00,000.
Veer (2010)
Towards late 2009, we were all anticipating the release of the historical action film Veer where Salman Khan was to play Veer Pratap Singh, the Pindari prince. However, upon its release, all we heard from viewers was that it wasn't what they were expecting. Veer received harsh criticism for its script, direction, and cast besides failing to impress at the box office with a worldwide gross of INR 58.58 crores. What's worse? The storyline for Veer was written by Salman himself!
