Racism is a subjective term, in more essence of discrimenatory. Indians with a lighter tone discriminate against the ones with darker tone. "Fair and Lovely" and using such products tend to give a message out to the rest of the citizens that, you won't get married into a wealthy family if you're not lighter. I don't need to dumb this down anymore, but "racism" is a subjective term and it can be used as a convincing term in this case. Even in the article, it clearly points out, "Shah Rukh Khan is saying that to be successful you have to be fair."
p.s. the states are a complete different factor. Racism here is in every other form. I don't think we need to bring the States down to make India look like a better place.
No. Racism is an incorrect term if the 'discrimination' (if we can call it that) exists within the same race. "Race-ism" comes from the word race. A dark-skinned Indian isn't a different race, hence the word is INVALID. Dunno why you aren't getting the simple logic. And btw, aren't we getting too hyper with the "discrimination"? What discrimination? Not being considered as good-looking as fair people isn't "discrimination". You're making it sound like dark-skinned people are ostracized or something in India. Here "discrimination" is only in matters where
beauty or
appearance comes into play, like arranged marriage, for instance, which is heavily looks-based from both sides. Its like nobody liking Ginger hair in the West. As in, its a PURELY "beauty" matter.
Discrimination is a serious word, we needn't insult REAL victims of racism by using that term. :)
