Varun Dhawan reveals Salman Khan’s 2 AM call that changed everything amid Border 2 trolling storm

Varun Dhawan is currently soaking in the massive success of Border 2, but the journey to this high point wasn’t entirely smooth. At the film’s recent success press conference, the actor opened up about the trolling he faced after the trailer dropped and how a late-night call from Salman Khan became a turning point for him. From memes about his smile to doubts about his performance, Varun admitted the online chatter was loud. But instead of letting it break him, he chose to stay steady.

Speaking candidly at the event, Varun shared that trolling has almost become routine in today’s digital world. He said some people handle it better than others, and he decided not to let it get under his skin.

He was particularly targeted for his smile in the trailer, which quickly turned into a meme fest on social media. However, Varun maintained that he didn’t take it personally. He chose to focus on his work and wait for the film to speak for itself. That belief, as it turns out, paid off.

During the toughest phase of the trolling, Varun received an unexpected call from Salman Khan and it meant more than he could explain. Recalling the moment, Varun said

"When all this was going on, I got a phone call from Salman bhai at night. He was just laughing, and he said, ‘Good things are about to come. His advice and belief meant a lot to me.”

Salman Khan’s Late-Night Boost

After Border 2 was released and turned into a box office winner, Salman called him again. Sharing that emotional moment, Varun revealed, “When the film wasreleased and did so well, he called me again and said, ‘I am so happy for all of you.’ Something he said that stays very close to my heart: ‘I am proud of you, beta.’ It was 2 in the morning, and I just stood up on my bed. That was one of the most defining moments for me because he doesn’t praise people easily. Even his praise has a twist. He didn’t need to do that, but his saying that gave me a lot of confidence.”
