Doordarshan National shared the news of her demise on social media, expressing its condolences and paying tribute to the senior news presenter. In its message, the broadcaster remembered her for her “gentle voice, precise pronunciation, and dignified delivery,' qualities that defined her long association with Indian television news.
Sharing the statement on X (formerly Twitter), Doordarshan National wrote, “On behalf of the Doordarshan family, we pay our heartfelt tribute to Mrs Sarla Maheshwari. She was a respected and revered Doordarshan newsreader, who carved a special place in the Indian news world with her gentle voice, precise pronunciation, and dignified delivery. Her simplicity, restraint, and personality instilled a deep trust in her viewers.” The message reflected the impact she had on audiences during her years as one of public broadcasting's recognisable faces.
A Voice That Earned Viewers’ Trust
Sarla Maheshwari was among the prominent newsreaders during a time when Doordarshan was the primary source of televised news for millions across the country. Her presentation style was marked by clarity and composure, qualities that helped her build credibility with viewers. Her presence on the Doordarshan screen had a unique aura.'

Narang further noted that Maheshwari treated everyone with respect and positively influenced every space she was part of. 'She respected everyone and uplifted every space she was part of. I pray that God grants her soul eternal peace and gives strength to the Maheshwari family,' he added.
