I think there are a lot of similarities between Ovi and Soham but they are very different in their own way. Please don't get offended when I say this because I say it with a lot of respect, I always feel like most of you guys bring such lovely arguments but you rarely listen to what the other person is saying. Everything here is about proving a point instead of understanding something. It goes for both Ovi lovers and Ovi haters here.
- Ovi was obsessive, psychotic, Soham is obsessive, more than psychotic, he is a psychopath.
- Ovi was naive, foolish and in denial, Soham is naive.
- Ovi didn't know how to handle Arjun's rejection, Soham didn't know how to handle Gauri's rejection.
- Ovi's situation was handled carelessly by the people around her, Soham's situation was handled carelessly by the people around her.
While Ovi and Soham have things in common they were still different and I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that Ovi is NRI and educated, and Soham is illiterate.
First difference has to be the fact that Gauri never promised anything to Soham, Gauri never once told him she loved him or anything of that sort. Soham can cry all he wants now but before the rishta talk he also had no idea how she felt. Soham himself wasn't really in love with her or wasn't thinking about marrying her until very recently. Ovi grew up loving Arjun. She was engaged to him. Gauri promised nothing to Soham but Arjun on the other hand did. That is huge difference.
Here is the party scene when Arjun calls himself her fiance and says he is going to marry her even before they are actually engaged. Ovi gets so surprised Ovi asks him about what he said and he says "whatever I said is true. I want to marry you, only if you don't mind you know..." A girl is hearing this from the man who is her best friend and also the love of her life. She obviously had huge expectations from him. In the next episode Ovi tells him to return from India soon and he
playfully says if he meets a beautiful girl then it might take some time. Ovi playfully says that's fine, I will just hangout with Romel and his friends and Arjun gets serious and says that is not necessary, I will return soon. She says that is like a good BOYFRIEND. They were in a relationship. Soham has no right on Gauri. He is wrong to demand things from her, Ovi had rights on Arjun. Even Arjun expected Ovi to be faithful to him and not be around Romel and those other guys. Gauri did not wrong Soham. Arjun wronged Ovi. Sure he did not mean to and you can cut him slacks for that, but he did wrong her.
Ovi's anger toward Purvi was justified. It wasn't just that the man she loves more than anything all of a sudden loved Purvi, it was more than that. If I found out the guy I loved all my life, the guy I am engaged to is actually having some sort of fling with this girl who is pretending to be my friend, a girl I have been sharing my worries with that concerns the guy, a girl who also happens to be my sister I would be furious at her. You are lying if you say you wouldn't be as well. No matter what the cause was Purvi did lie to her. Soham has no right to be angry at Sachin. Archana brought Gauri to Sachin, Gauri accepted Sachin before Sachin had any type of say in it. Sachin had no idea of Soham's feelings until minutes before Soham attacked him. Ovi did not think Purvi was right for Arjun, Soham knows Gauri fits Sachin better than she fits him.
Even when Ovi believed she was betrayed by Purvi she was not vicious. I know it is a hard thing to see for someone who really hates Ovi but she never wanted to hurt Purvi, or put her in any type of grave danger to get Arjun. She was not Punni. Soham is ready to take Sachin out of this world if it means he can be with Gauri, but even at Ovi's worst moments she never wanted to harm Purvi in such a way. Yes she slapped Purvi a billion times but it all happened when Ovi herself was broken. Ovi's anger toward Purvi is not the same anger Soham has toward Sachin.
Soham demands Gauri, a Gauri that is not his and if he doesn't get her he will destroy everyone on his way to get her. Ovi wanted an Arjun that she believe was hers. She was completely delusional and felt he still loved her. The kangan, standing up for her car drama all led her to believe he loved her. I know she was wrong... Arjun didn't love her and he was not hers but he was engaged to her out of his own will from her perspective. She also did not trust Purvi's love. She begged Archana, she begged Purvi, she begged everyone! When she goes to blackmail Purvi it wasn't even one of those evil demanding types. She is so afraid that Purvi will not say yes and this is her last shot at having happiness. She was planning to kill herself on the night of their wedding because she thought she had failed. This is not because she is rich, and it is not because she is educated that she took a different path than Soham. Punni is not half as rich as Ovi and she is also quite educated, still she acts like she is entitled to everything and finds it unfair when it is taken from her and she tries to get it back. There have been many women in the show who tried to get their way by one type of force or another, look at Savita. Few of them were as vulnerable and as broken as Ovi. I am not saying what Ovi did was right even for a second. She was very wrong but her outlook was different than Soham's. Soham didn't break, he got mean. It is not because he is a man, man break too when they lose their love. Ovi was scorned and she broke.
At times Ovi tried to protect Arjun from Archana and Purvi. She thought they were money hungry. She tried to give him the 10,000 so he wouldn't have to work at the garage for money. I know she was completely wrong and she was absolutely delusional, but she was thinking about him!! She hated how he suffered. Soham on the other hand is trying to take Gauri away from a good life and take her to his Vishnu Lala life. Where is the concern for Gauri here? Ovi completely misunderstood Arjun's love but there was this sincerity there, Soham's love for Gauri has none of that.
The night before the wedding Ovi was planning to kill herself, alone. Ovi took it out on herself, Soham takes it out on others. I think it is unfair to say that these two are the same. They are not. Self harming comes from a broken person, vicious behaviors like Soham's does not.
You don't have to like Ovi. Ovi can be very much in the wrong without being like Soham. There is more than one way to be wrong. She was obsessive and delusional but she was not Soham.
