@ganganamstyle I agree with you about everything.

Re: Veena Malik after her antics on the show she should be glad that she got any work at all. I guess Endemol must've decided to get Sunny Leone only after seeing Veena - better to get a real po*nstar than a wannabe types.

Rakhi I doubt she can be called a success in that sense. Before BB at least she was getting item songs and bit parts in bollywood. After the show she's not been signed on by a single Bollywood producer. All her success has been through controversial relaity shows.

PS: love your siggy

Very good analysis. BB is just a show and it depends on person how he/she takes career forward. Jade Goody is the only BB(UK) contestant who became celeb and retained her stardom post BB. she was not winner of the show!!!

Good post and thanks for bumping it up, I would have it missed it otherwise.
Bigg Boss is a platform which gives you instant recognition but not necessarily success. I found myself googling people like Shilpa and Pratyusha to check out their story. I'm sure so many of us would have also done that for other contestants. In that sense, it is recognition that these people are getting from wider public outside their immediate area of work.

Success, on the other hand, depends on the nature of ambition. I would consider Rakhi a BB success story. She overnight became a Reality TV queen, got to do more shows on TV- two dedicated to her (Swayamvar and Rakhi Ka Insaaf 😳) and item number in films, a Yash Raj film no less (Dil Bole Hadippa, in which incidentally Sherlyn Chopra also "acted"). What worked in Rakhi's favor was that she made her "motor mouth" her USP. At that time, she was the only one so it worked. Now, every other Reality TV contestant runs their mouth and it's not considered controversial anymore.

I think it is revealing too much of your personality in the show that can harm your career as industry considers you to be that person. Shweta, although very popular, remained mysterious through out the show. Even Dolly's dirt on her could not expose her inner workings clearly.
But take someone like Juhi, who although won the show, came across as someone who doesn't listen, is dominating and aggressive. Generally, you wouldn't want to work with someone like that.

Ultimately, it is a combination of talent and personality that can determine where you go from BB, otherwise Rahul Roy had a great personality on BB😃

Your mistake: Rakhi was offered big production movies and songs like Krazzy 4's Dekhta hai tu, Dil Bole Hadippa's Bhangra bistar, Muthirai, 1920 and she became a very popular household name only after Bigg Boss. No one ever knew her name before the show. Also she's now in most of the reality shows after Bigg Boss.

Season 3's controversial contestant was KRK not Sherlyn.
Sherlyn only got the Limelights after Bigg Boss. Vindoo's failed career got a revive only after the show. though he again ruined it after the bet controversy.

Season 4: Dolly Bindra was never popular, no one even knew her before the show except seeing her in some films appearing very little as comedy cameos. She never did any better role in movies. Only after the show 'Dolly Bindra' became a household name and all the recognition and success she got only because of Bigg Boss. So her only achievement in life is Bigg Boss.

Season 5: Again no one knew who any Pooja Missra was. All the limelight she received only during her Bigg Boss stay. Now she also became a household name and almost everyone knows her and her one liner Spare Me. She signed few films after that which she's been working on now and opened a popular 'Spare Me' showroom. Also she's doing lots of fashion shows as the show stopper. Again all the recognisation and success she got only because of Bigg Boss. Again her most achievement includes Bigg Boss.

It was Bigg Boss which launched the entire Sunny Leone. Only after Bigg Boss peoples got to know her. Even in Hollywood mostly no one knew her as there are millions of po*nstars and no one even bothers to know their names including us.
All the fame, success, recognition she got because of Bigg Boss. If she wasn't in Bigg Boss then her carrier would never have launched.

Season 6: Sana Khan signed lots of South films after Bigg Boss.

Season 1

Winner: Rahul Roy
Controversial: Kashmira Shah
Item Girl:
Rakhi Sawant.

Fate: Both Kashmira and Rahul Roy have never been heard of after the show. Rakhi has been trying ever since to stay in public eye through various means including a Swayamvar but she has never been offered a film after that

Season 3
Winner: Vindoo Dara Singh
Controversial: Sherlyn Chopra
Item Girl:
Sherlyn Chopra

Fate: Sherlyn has not been offered any hindi film, she tried to revive her career in hollywood but failed there too, as a last resort she attempted the nude centre-spread but event hat failed to get her any roles. While Vindoo did appear in a couple of films that had more to do with his pre-existing contacts than BiggBoss. Last heard he was involved in betting scam.

Success Stories: Pravesh Rana, Claudia Ciesla

Season 4
Winner: Shweta Tiwari
Controversial: Dolly Bindra
Item Girl:
Veena Malik

Fate: Well this season did a number of successes including Shweta, Sameer Soni, Veena Malik, Ashmit Patel but it also saw the demise of careers of hugely successful people like Sara Kahn and Manoj Tiwari. Both have been unable to revive their careers post BiggBoss. Same goes for DollyBindra. Where she was getting bit parts in both movies and serials prior to the show, after the show got over, she's never been seen on screen.
The Great Khali has also been missing on WWE circuit so far as I know.
Success Stories: Shweta Tiwari, Sameer Soni, Veena Malik

Season 5
Winner: Juhi parmar
Controversial: Pooja Misshra
Item Girl:
Mahek Chahal

Fate:
This season saw the mass-scale destruction of so many careers. Sky, Pooja Bedi, Shraddha Sharma, Sid, Pooja Misshra, Amar Upadhyay, Shakti Kapoor and Juhi Parmar - no one has been heard of ever since.

Success Stories: The only success story of note was Sunny Leone and she did not need BB to launch her career.

Season 6
Winner: Urvashi Dholakia
Controversial: Imam
Item Girl:
Sana Khan

Fate: Sana had to face a false case and dodge the police because of her popularity on the show. Urvashi has not been heard of ever since the show. Imam did get a show of his own on MTV, but notably talks for that show were already on when he entered the house.

Success Stories: Aashka, Sayantani, Delnaaz and Imam

sorry but this doesnt apply to all contestant
mahesh bhatt would have never noticed sunny leone for that role if she was not on bigg boss so bigg boss helped to launch sunny leone career
similarly santosh shukla do you think he would have became the mail villain in salman khan movie if he was not there in bigg boss . similarly ashmit patel nd sana khan were also from bigg boss nd are now doing a film with salman which is a big thing
i think one thing that you have to do in bigg boss house is to get friendly with salman so there you have a chance of entering bollywood

I don't think BB is such a strong show that it can break or make stars.

Most of the people who were successful got success due to Contacts/Hard work. Nothing related to BB.

People who were popular in BB didn't always become stars outside. Some who won BB or were popular on the show, were not successful outside. It proves that BB does nothing to them. They were probably too old/haggard to get anything besides BB.

A lot of other people failed bcoz they were non entities already n BB was only a speck on the horizon.

Thank you for correcting me regarding Rakhi - yes she definitely is a BB success story. I thought Krazzy4 and other movies happened before BB, so in my calculation I'd put her down as losing out professionally. I'd also forgotten about her second show Rakhi ka Insaaf.

Yep Rakhi is the one who made being politically uncorrect - fashionable. She gave a niche respect to the low-brow just by being unapologetic about who or what she is.

My criteria for success is only Career - not visibility or popularity - for instance Ashutosh Kaushik might've gained visibility but he's not gained work. Similarly Dolly Bindra got a lot of fame and visibility but her appointment book has dried up after BB. No one is willing to hire her.

And yes like yous aid - it is a measure of talent and personality that keeps bringing in work. Delnaaz for all her attempts to change her image in BB still got work only as the funny, fat neighbor who is man-crazy - and that to me is a failure. She could've done well in antagonist and mother roles too as we saw in BB.
