i would like to make a comment here...
I watch BV regularly and feel its a wonderful serial.. but the CVs ought to be careful..
Karnataka. Tamilnadu, AP and Kerala are different states with totally different cultures..
i hail from blore...Mangalore is a part of Karnataka.. The kannada spoken was wrong in the first place.. n the ppl in the restaurant wr dressed in lungis.. come to mangalore once and see the kind of dressing.. plus v in karnataka dnt speak in the accent which is often used to depict south indians..
when the festival of Teej was portrayed vth such finesse, y not be careful abt the rest.. Its kinda annoying to show southies tht way...

As far as the hindi seriels are concerned, the moment they think of South, they will visualize either Madrasis or keralites (men with Doti or lungi an dwomen with heavy Silk saree and jasmine flower). Yaar we kannadigas also wear sarees but not on all occassions and the men here who serve in hotels do wear uniforms with the hotels name embedded. On rear cases you will find a place wear men wil be worn white doties and white shirts.
With reagrd to accent, though I am a kannadiga, (I am from Bangalore), it is difficult for me to follow Mangalore Kannada. So please be careful while using the language and accent.

It was dhoti not lungi.
Iam tamilian it's true, that South Indians are always pictured in dhotis

Even in TN you won't find waiters in Dhotis in a town or a city
Don't know about the slang, but I hate people always linking South Indians to just sambar, idli and dosas. South Indians are not just famous for food but intelligence too.
A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is one such example.

India is an amalgamation of different cultures!!! Yes there is an attitudinal difference...which glorifies the specific places' culture----- it must not be a mockery or redicule--...it should be teasing... just for funs' sake!!Sardarji Jokes...Bengali babus' pan chewing act ...Bhihari babus' slang...these are all most common for the fun making It should be ticklish...not to tarnish!!!

As far as the MENU is concerned, no hotel will have a menu only in Kannada. Either the menu will have both Kannada and Enlish or only in English. And coming to waiters not understanding hindi altogether is also untrue that too in Mangalore or Bangalore. Mangalore is an education hub and we see students from All over the world study there. So if not they are very well versed with talking, they are sure to understand basic hindi which is required to serve food.
You can always order your choice of food even with out Menu and you can ask the waiter what is best or special in their hotel.

South Indians are always stereotyped with a lungi or idli sambhar...I'm from Mangalore...I can guarantee that we'll hardly find people wearing lungis here...I agree with the TM that when they are depicting South India, they have to be a little careful...Even the sentence spoken in Kannada yesterday was wrong...

Very true...

And we as indians fight about the discrimination other countries do when they portrait India. They portrait us Indians as non technology people living in caveman era. I guess our own India discriminates our culture by showing south part of India as undeveloped side of India.

This is truly sad. Thank you so much for raising this topic.

dear ...bollywood and tv shows always steryotype all communities be it punjabies gujaraties. bengalies...south indians or anyone for tht matter...
even rajasthan is not pridicted correctly in bv...nobody remains dressed up in heavey lehengas and jewellery all the time like haveli peeps.
So take a chill pill and ignore the ignorant film/serial makers ;-)

I am a south Indian from AP...hav been in Bangalore for 1 yr
And i can tell u karnataka is a place where people know maximum number of languages specially Hindi...
and i find it irritating sometimes to see them portray us like that

But as one said...Ignorance is bliss
the makers want entertainment on the pretext of us...
so lets just ignore the film/serial makers who discriminate north to south cultures...they r just not worth our time
lets just njoy ignoring these things...

I'm from TN. Hindi Serial / movies ke liye sirf south hota hai. No existence of other state names, languages and difference of cultures. Sab ke liye ek hi stereotyped cliches which are far from the realities of today.

Kisi bhi hotel me waiters dhoti nahi pehente even in Tamilnadu. It could be in small village road side tea shops, not in hotels. And youngsters toh dhoti pehente hi nahi hai except on special pujas or in marraige ceremonies.

And ike some other member pointed out, all the boards / menu's have two languages - local language and English. Infact in bigger hotels, these days they use only English.

Not just in BV, in all the serials they show like this only. And this applies to all gujaratis, punjabis, bengalis too. Punjabis are shown always hyper and ready to do bhangra, i always want to ask a punjabi if there was any truth in this. Chennai me bahut punjabis hai. But i have no acquaitances in them. Kabhi kabhi lagtha kisi bhi rah chalte punjabi uncle se puch hi lun😆.

I think they are just ignorant or just not ready take the effort to portray it correctly. Anyway, It doesn't really bother me much.
