A very good post... loved the way every one wrote about the wrong way of portraying south Indian's..
I am from Mangalore and I have spent my school days in Gujarat... and I am happy that they did not show people of Mangalore speaking in Tamil...to say the least 😆.. because people always think that all South Indians are tamilians and speak only Tamil... (Madrasi) is what we were called back then in School...

At least BV made an effort to show kannada in Mangalore...forget the accent.. the Kannada serials also do not show proper Mangalore accent ... in their serials.. So BV have to be applauded 👏

Correct me if I am wrong. I have many freinds from different parts of Karnataka. I am a Tamilian

Mangalore doesn't have only Tulu speaking & Konkani speaking people. We have kannadigas (Kannad aspeaking - whose mother tongue is kannada). We are not dividing the Karnataka here, we are only talking abouut the way they portrayed the resturant & the language. I am very much from Karnataka (Mysore), working in Bangalore but studied in Manipal (80 Km from Mangalore).

I watch BV regularly and feel its a wonderful serial.. but the CVs ought to be careful..
Karnataka. Tamilnadu, AP and Kerala are different states with totally different cultures..
i hail from blore...Mangalore is a part of Karnataka.. The kannada spoken was wrong in the first place.. n the ppl in the restaurant wr dressed in lungis.. come to mangalore once and see the kind of dressing.. plus v in karnataka dnt speak in the accent which is often used to depict south indians..
when the festival of Teej was portrayed vth such finesse, y not be careful abt the rest.. Its kinda annoying to show southies tht way...

How many times we shout that south indians are not AYYOAYYO types-the typecast remains-irony is none of the waiters wear lungi+ angawastra-what a silly thing-there is something called uniform-
And wat----menu card in kannada-please-------maybe in vidhana soudha canteen !!!GROW UP!!!!!

I mean atleast tried to though tht dhoti part n kannada menu isn't rightly placed! but felt good when they spoke nanu kannada gotilla... atleast someone identified Karnataka... coz normanlly as we al know they type cast al south Indians alike... like rajasthanis n Bengalis r different... tamilians and kannadigas are... my optimistic part of brain was happy tht atleast someone made an effort😊

yup

but dhoti ( panche) is tied only when there is festival or marriage functions or any religious events

not all the time

and mangalore kannada accent is totally different they will start with maarayre
or we call maami or maam for aunty and uncle

and mangalore have islam and christian community is more and the people well understand hindi more than kannada there
as mangalore is nearer to mumbai
and it has prestigious university like manipal which is the study centre for many north indian students
can say mangalore is mini mumbai😛

I'm glad they chose a place like Mangalore to set the story in.
And plus, it's natural that they have to show Ganga having some trouble in a new place.

It would be nice if they got the language and vesh bhoosha a little more authentic, but I feel this team is at least trying!!

And as for Ganga, she looked so GORGEOUS in that Kanjeevaram saree, I wish they give her a make over and make her wear fab south Indian sarees all the time! It would be a great look for her.

@bold, I wrote in some other thread that people in Karnataka generally understand Hindi well and are not as rigid about language as some other southern states, and I was informed by some forum member that Mangalore is not like Bangalore/Hyderabad where people understand Hindi.
Moreover, with being educational hub, I think, it is but natural that people will understand Hindi and English apart from the local language (my nephew is in Vellore and there Hindi is spoken more than any other language, shopkeepers, taxi drivers etc. all speak in Hindi also because a large number of students are from north India).

Yaar we kannadigas also wear sarees but not on all occassions and the men here who serve in hotels do wear uniforms with the hotels name embedded. On rear cases you will find a place wear men wil be worn white doties and white shirts.

With reagrd to accent, though I am a kannadiga, (I am from Bangalore), it is difficult for me to follow Mangalore Kannada. So please be careful while using the language and accent.
