There was no awkwardness with Kareena Kapoor
Here is a tte--tte with the self confessed 'destiny's child' Amrita Rao who started her year on a high note with Jolly LLB and is getting ready for her next outings, Satyagraha and Singh Sahab The Great. Amrita talks about how she landed 'Satyagraha', and her experience working with the legend Amitabh Bachchan and the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor. Read on..
After starting the year with a hit like Jolly LLB you will be seen in Satyagraha next. How did you land this movie?
Its destiny . I was shooting for SSTG in Bhopal with Sunny Deol around the time Satyagraha was about to start. Coincidently, Satyagraha was also to be shot in Bhopal. I thought of sending a message to Prakash sir since I wanted to work in this project but i didn't. But surprisingly, after three days Prakash Ji sent me a text saying that he wants to meet up. I believe if you are destined for something it will come your way. The best thing was that i was shooting for Singh Sahab The Great in Bhopal. Otherwise, I would have had to let go off the film with a pinch of salt.
Can you elaborate on your role in Satyagraha?
I play a small town but educated girl, Sumitra Anand who believes in honesty. She represents the 'aam aadmi' . She believes in following her dreams despite the obstacles a common man faces today.
How was it to share the screen with the legendary actor, Amitabh Bachchan? Were you nervous?
It was a wonderful experience working with him and learning from just being around him. He is a fun person to be with. Initially, I was a little nervous in his presence so didn't know how to break the ice. One day, when I was having my food during a lunch break, I noticed him looking at me from the corner of his eye. He came upto me and encouraged me to eat with everyone else and also made a small joke about how I was gobbling the food. That actually helped breaking the ice.
Was there any awkwardness between Kareena Kapoor because of the common link, Shahid Kapoor?
Not at all. In fact at the time they both broke up, the media held me responsible and linked me up with Shahid. That was a farce . Kareena and I are both mature people and during the shoot we shared a completely comfortable relationship on screen as well as off screen.
According to the gossip mongers, Shahid himself spreads his link up rumours.
I have read in the newspapers that Shahid is still in a victim mode due to his relationships. Whether or not the buzz is created by him or not is something I don't know.
The audience loved your on-screen pairing with Shahid. Any chances of working with him again?
The audience loved us so much as a pair they have created a twitter account by the name of 'Shamrita'. It is overwhelming. I would love to work with Shahid if there is right script. Off-screen we share a cordial relationship and the only time we meet at birthday bashes or film parties.
In the past few years, we have not seen too much of you on screen. Are you being selective?
Surprisingly I have not been selective. Some films have not worked out or are stuck. But this year i have three releases starting with Jolly LLB. I am happy the audience loved it.
So what next?
A nice holiday. i have worked so hard this whole year. I badly need and deserve one. I will leave after the release of Satyagrah.
Where do you plan to go?
Goa. My favourite place in the world. After finishing the shoot of Satyagraha and Singh Sahab The Great, I got myself a really short and funky haircut. That was my way of breaking free of a commitment.
We have not heard any link ups of you. Is there is someone special in your life?
If there is someone special in my life I would like to announce it at the right stage of the relationship because it will bring a certain respect to it. Also, flaunting a relationship can keep you in news irrespective of your movie projects but for me that is losing the sanctity of a relationship and making it commercial. I will never do that.
Will you date an actor?
It will be dIfficult to date an actor because its not easy to see your partner romancing with other heroines even if it is done professionally. Having said that 'never say never'.
