Kis rah pe chal ke Kumud ki
Naiyya hogi paar?
One road that leads
Back to the sunny streets of her childhood
The welcoming arms of ma and bapu
And questioning eyes
Pointing fingers
Accusing glances
Malicious gossip
That will singe not just her
But all her loved ones
The second road that takes her
Into the arms of Saras
Her soulmate
Where she will find love
And social ostracizatiion
And character assassination
Hers, and that of her sisters
And shame in the eyes of her ma bapu
The third road is the one
Taken many years earlier
By the mother of a little boy
To give her release forever
And leave behind
The scars that will never heal
And pain that will never die
There is the fourth road
Of social dignity
Prestige and honor
And to personal humiliation
Insult and abuse
Behind the closed doors
In the darkness of night!
Aaj chaar raste hain saamne
Kahin paaon main chubhenge
Rahon ke paththar
To kahin, sar pe pehnegi
Kanton ka taj
Kahin keelon ki sej pe sona hoga
To kahin tootega dil aur bahenge aasoon!
