POLITICALLY INCORRECT

SHOBHAA DE
What a way to start a brand new year — with not one, but three horror stories. Just as one was coming to terms with Saddam Hussein's barbaric hanging (come on, in this day and age? How medieval!), came the macabre story of a maniac called Goldy, accused of murdering over 30 innocent children in Noida. This was followed by an ugly fracas that took place in Mumbai, when a woman was molested on New Year's eve by an unruly gang of Gateway Gropers. All three incidents are important indicators of a sick society. The politics of the Saddam hanging merit much more space, but one thing is abundantly clear — the method adopted was abhorrent. The last time something so morally revolting took place was when Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged in Pakistan. In Saddam's case, it's even more noteworthy given America's direct endorsement of the ghastly act.
😆, so Saddam Hussien getting hanged was morally revoting, people getting gassed by Saddam was a religious act, selective vision eh!!
BTW Did she just equate Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's life to that of Saddam Hussein or just the hanging, Ok Bhutto was democratically elected and was hanged by a Dictator, In Iraq A democratically elected govt hanged a dictator, Same...😕, Oh yeah it should be the same to Shobha De who does not think India is a democracy either😆😆😆
Closer home, the goings-on in our own backyard are beyond tragic. Sure, there has been a public hungama after the grisly news about a psycho called Pandher was flashed all over the media. The most shocking aspect of this case is the blatant show of indifference towards the tragedy, by the police and politicians. Why? Because the missing kids were 'little nobodies' — children of people who don't count.
Had the hair of even a single VIP kid been touched by Goldy, a posse of top cops would've descended on Noida and picked up the first suspect. But in the case of these underprivileged parents, seeking the help of authorities to trace their tots, nobody gave them the time of day. They were chased away rudely and harangued mercilessly.
Isnt this a delicacy of India😉
The attitude of arrogant politicians has been still more shocking. To describe this horrific crime as ''chhota mota'' is nothing short of callousness. What else can one expect in that Jungle Raj called UP? I watched a police officer defending his 'boys' and asking the media to praise their efforts! I couldn't believe the man's gall. Ditto for an obscure lawyer who also appeared on TV, grinning shamelessly while providing alibis to his school-friend, the Ghoulish Goldy. Was it just the old boy's network in over-drive? Or was the unknown lawyer taking full advantage of being seen on prime TV? His only contact with the killer (by his own admission) was a two-minute encounter en route to a hill station. Equally strange was the buddy-buddy defence of Goldy by former college-mates who expressed scepticism that ''one of them'' could do something as terrible. The suggestion being, such crimes are not committed by ''people like us.''
This is always a defense for serial killers, the guy who shot up Amish county, the columbine kids, everyone
The Gateway Gropers tell their own sordid story. A woman in a crowd becomes fair-game — she is outnumbered, for one. Besides, the alibi is always the same: she asked for it. Why was she there in the first place? Didn't she know it was New Year's Eve? That the mass molestation took place right under the noses of cops perched on machaans, makes the incident more disturbing. Mumbai was coming to terms with the daylight murder of a young female tourist from the North-East, at the very same spot last year. And now this.
------------------------------------------------------------ -
Women and children are the new minorities. They are the most marginalised segments of our society. Also, the most vulnerable. Entirely indefensible acts are perpetrated against them, without anybody caring. The brutal killing of so many children in a 'decent' neighbourhood by a supposedly 'decent' man should serve as a wake-up call. Where was everyone when Goldy and his Man Friday were luring innocent victims to their residence, before assaulting them sexually and then chopping them to pieces? Did nobody hear their cries? Worse, having heard, did nobody act because nobody cared? It's not Goldy alone who is guilty, we all are.
Happy New Year, World!
