Dear Friends,

I saw this petition. Should we really go for Hindi in US where Hindi is loosing its mark in its origin country Hindustan. Our Hindustan is globally known as India now. Rarely it is called Bharat or Hindustan.

Many people find it pretigious to say that they cannot talk or write more in Hindi and can express better in English. Me amd my kids are always talking in Hindi at home and thans to Hindi channels they enjoy hindi serials and songs too. But yes they can speak but cannot write. instead they are learning Spanish. Will it not be better if they could learn Hindi, a part of our culture.

Chiense are also introducing their language in Universities here, then why not we too.

I love the concept of people learning multiple languages. So why not Hindi too? Let people choose Hindi if they want to. I would still choose another foreign language as an elective over Hindi because Hindi can be learnt at home.

in my opinion wen one does not know their own language then its mostly due to to the fact that at their homes no one ever tells them how important it really is to learn their own langauge... it wud be great if one's language cud be taught at school but more than anything parents shud teach their kids at home their languages... i have noticed sum parents dont even teach their kids their own language lyk hindi or urdu and just feel proud their kids know english and thats all! 😕 ... i mean sum ppl can hardly pronounce the smallest words correctly, if thats the condition now then how wud it be after a couple of years? 😕 ppl wud just forget their true identity..... in other words, i think everyone shud know how to speak their own langauage, and the first step that makes a difference is to give it importance and at least speak it at ur home first. 😊

All schools have to offer a minimum of three extra languages to students. Most states require that students complete highschool level courses in at least one other language other than english.

My highschool (The Taft School) had offered Hindi, but found that other language courses such as the classics (Greek and Latin), French, Spanish, German, Arabic and a few others were far more popular. There really isn't the demand to justify hiring more teachers and making room for extra classes. I'll admit, I was somewhat interested, but in the end I chose to continue on with Greek, Latin, Spanish and German instead.

My university (USC) does offer courses in Hindi to a level of fluency, where a person is able to understand the concepts of the language, and read and write in the language, which gives them a base for grad school and further solidifying their grasp on the langauge.

I cant say much abt dis topic cause i live in Pakistan but even here the conditions r much the same. No1 is intrested in learning urdu knowing dat in the future it doesnt have much use. The same case is wid me. If i plan to study abroad which is quite nesscary if u want a gud job nowdays, then my base of english n 1 extra langauge like french wud be useful not urdu or hindi..In dis case its not us to blame or our parents but the society as a whole who wants ppl to study abroad in order to get gud education rather then improving the education standards here so dat dere is no need to go abroad n ppl actually cum here. 😊

Our schooling disrict has been offering Hindi in their courses at the High school level. As a part of the world languages in the High school. And I know there are many kids who have taken HINDI as their foreign language.
