PART 54

It was early morning when maan came down and directly went to kitchen where his mother was busy preparing breakfast. "maa I am going to next village today, would come late at night, or even in morning depending on the climate." "but why bte so suddenly" asked savitri as she stopped her work.

"just some work maa" he said and moved out of the kitchen and then came back and said, "maa geet ka fever kal increased as it was raining at night, to please aap use dekh lena and wo medicines mere kehne se nhi leti so wo bhi please ek baar dekh lena ki she takes it on time."

"maa she is a grown up and is fully capable to take care of her own self" said savitri fully ignoring his request. Maan just nodded at her comment and and then said, "yes she is a grown up, par bache kitne hi bade ho jae, the will always be kid for their mother, aur wo apko apni maa manti hai" maan said and left the kitchen without waiting for savitri's reply.

Savitri just froze on her place as she heard his comment and then looked at his retreating back. "if I am his mother, then he is my kid too. janta hai kab kya kehna hai" savitri thought and just continued doing her work.

When geet came down for breakfast, she found no maan around and asked savitri, "maa apne unhe dekha. I hadn't seen him since morning" "hmm, he had gone to some near by village" said savitri and served her breakfast. "maa aap rehne dijiye, I will do it myself" said geet stopping savitri but savitri just countered back, 'hmm so that you can tell my son that your fever increased because I didn't took proper care of you behind his back"

Geet's eyes just casted down hearing the taunt. She hadn't ever told him anything against savitri then why she is being taunted for that. But she just couldn't retort to her now, knowing she is angry obecause of her only.

Geet had the breakfast without much fuss and even the whole day went like that, geet did whatever savitri asked her not wanting her to taunt her again for anything. It was 11 pm and rains were falling heavily and maan hadn't been back yet.

Savitri lookd out of the window in the dark roads for any sign of him but there were none. He had already told that he would be back late or in morning if the climate is worse, so may be had stayed down in the village itself. Savitri sighed and went back in her room and laid down. Geet's temperature was normal in day time so she didn't had to worry much but then it was raining heavily now and since their room is near terrace, it is colder than other rooms. Other days she knew her son is there wih her to take care of her, but well today she is all alone and how much angry she be, she is still a woman and a mother first of all, and her motherly instinct just ordered her to have a check on geet.

Savitri decided to check on geet and thus went in room only to find her sitting beside window, her eyes in tears again. she had clutched her head too, may be because of headache but her condition made the motherly heart in her felt bad.

She silently moved in the room without making much noice, while geet remained ignorant of her presence in the dark room, lit only by a candle in the corner.

Placing her palm on her head, savitri touched her forehead to find it burning, her fever had raised again. geet raised her head with that faint touch and looked at savitri standing in front of her. She immediately straightened herself and wiped off her tears from her swollen red eyes and with broken voice asked, "maa aap yha, did you need anything"

"your fever had raised, chaliye take medicine now and rest. Roz ka yu fever badna isn't good for your health and weather would just worsen your condition"

"nhi maa, am ok. You should have slept by now" said geet looking away from her.

"geet baat mat palatiye. Humne aapse kuch karne ko kha hai and I want you to do that now." Savitri moved to the side table where her medicines were kept and took out a crocin and gave a glass of water to her with medicine. "chup chap lijiye, hme baat daurahna pasand nhi"

Savitri said with firmness in her voice and geet immediately took the medicine not wanting to offend her more. "hmm that's good. Now get up from this chair and move to your bed and so jaeye" geet nodded and lay down on her bed closing her eyes. She placed her one hand in her hair, as she messaged her scalp while other laid on bed, clutching pillow corner in her fist.

Savitri did notice her messaging her scalp and went to get some warm oil for her. After few minutes she came back and found geet again looking out. Savitri came and sat beside her and said, "chaliye keep your head on my lap. I will give you a massage, your headache would go away"

Geet got startled with her sudden presence and immediately sat up, "aap kab'" "bate baad me, pehle your head ache is most important." Savitri made geet lay on her lap and with her oil dipped fingers massaged her hair.

Her closed her eyes as she just gave herself into that relaxing feel. Savitri's soft strokes made her remember of shalini, whom she once considered her mother and because whom, all of their life is so messed up. She just wondered how would it have been to lay on her own mother's lap and have her massage your scalp, take care of you when you are not well and listen her orders to have this and that so that you get better soon.

Her heart swelled up with the feel itself, as her throat felt choked with emotions and few tear drops fell of her eyes on savitri's lap. "is it paining badly" asked savitri worriedly seeing her tears, but geet just shook her head in no. "phir" geet lifted herself off savitri's lap and wiped away her tears and said, "it is late, aap bhi so jaeye. Yu kamkha mere karan aap"

"geet were you thinking about what I said to you that night???" asked savitri straightly. Geet looked away from savitri and didn't said anything. "geet I know in your POV, I am wrong. But kash hum aapko samjha pate ki hum pe kya biti ye jan kar ki jis ladki ko hum apne bte ki khushi mante the, usne aj tak hume andhere me rakha. Hume dhoka diya."

Geet just looked down. The guilt which she had tried to come out for so many months finally engulfed her again. she could clearing understand her heart, as she had felt the same with shalini's betrayal to her, and experienced its consequences too with maan. And now it again started building around her.

"I know you and maan had somehow coped with each other's wishes now, but till when will you both will be able to carry on like this makes us worried. Humne aap dono se jyada duniya dekhi ahi, and I know it takes whole life to make a relation but a Nano-second is enough to shatter it in pieces and then it gets impossible to remove that knot in the thread of relation. When its so difficult to cope with the demands of people who are of your age, your mentality, then how can I trust both of you to carry on a relation with two totally different personalities. And maybe you guys can bear that pain, but I won't be able to see my son's house broken in front of my eyes, when I could have reduced the damage at the correct time."

"don't you trust us, aap ko hum pe itna vishwas nhi ki we will face anything and everything that will come on our way" asked geet hearing savitri's explanation.

"geet you don't even know what is in your way, and you want me to trust you!!!" said savitri shaking her head. "do you know what are the responsibilities of a woman as a wife??? Do you know how many sacrifices and choices a woman had to take for the happiness of her family??? do you know how many deaths a woman die when she is in dilemma to choose between things which used to be her life before but has no importance in the eyes of in-laws and do you know how it is to keep your family above your own wishes??" asked savitri looking in eye of geet, questioning geet's own trust in that relation.

"maybe I don't, but I do know ki he will never force me to do anything as his wife, yet I love to do everything for him. I do know ki he will never ask me to make any sacrifice for his happiness, but my heart won't allow me to do anything against his wish, and if my heart is happy, then how can I die in making choices for his happiness. I know I am still unaware about many phases of marriage but I do know that no book or lecture could make me learn them. Its just the time and need and his support which will matter and I could take on anything for his happiness. And I had already kept his family's happiness as in your happiness his world lies and I know it was painful but the feel that he was happy in some corner of the world was more than enough to bear everything." Replied geet confidently to leave savitri speechless.

"geet uske bare me itne dave se jo bol rhi ho, tum us janti hi kitne ho???" asked savitri amazed with her reply.

"shayad jayda nhi, but I do know ki he loves to watch old hindi movies. I know ki however angry he may be, but he can't resist my aloo ke parathas made for him. I know ki how much ever hurt he may be, but he will never express it to you. I know he loves to sleep on Saturdays and Sundays in afternoon after lunch and will get irritated if someone disturbs him then. And I know ki he have bad headaches whenever he overworks and that could only be go away by your oil massages. I know he loves to eat halwa, but only in privacy so that he could lick off the spoon and relish it every bite. I know he loves white most still he prefers to wear blue as it makes him look smart more. I know ki.."

"bas geet I understand that you know about his choices but life isn't only about these things. Ye waqt ke sath badal jati hai, par what matters in the end is the support of the person you love aur agar kabhi tumhe laga ki he isn't perfect for you, I know my son won't be able to take it" said savitri finally expressing her main worry.

"maa can I ask you something. Just because I am young, you feel my feelings for him will change. But aisa bhi to ho sakta hai ki may be he realizes I am not fit for him and he will want to get out of this relationship. Tab what will you do???"

"I know my son will never cheat on you. If he had committed to you once, he will fulfill his promise till his last breath" said savitri with full confident on her son.

"kash you had that much confidence on me too maa. I know he is your son but if his feelings could be that strong, then why can't mine too. but aap sirf unpe trust karte ho. I can't say more maa except to wish that on day the confidence you have for him will be for me too" geet eyes were sparkling with tears now.

Saviti looked at geet and realized what maan said in morning was true, she did considered her as mother from heart and her wish was enough of a proof for her now. After a moment of silence geet asked, "do you really think my parents would have felt curses to give m'me b.. bir' birth" said geet her voice broken in the end due to her choked throat.

Savitri immediately stopped dead in her track as she was about to go away but geet's statement made her froze. She turned around to find her looking out of the window in sky and now she understood why geet was looking out of the window always.

She came back and took her in embrace as she said, "no no bte, it was just I anger I told all that. Aap bhut pyare ho and your parents would never be ashamed to have you as their daughter. Mera dimaag wasn't burning at that time with all that new information, aap please use bhul jaiye" said savitri patting her head but geet said.

"pakka my mumma-papa is in peace up there na. khi unko bhi to aisa nhi lagta ki I did wrong" geet was literally wailing in her embrace, while savitri just tried to find words to make her understand. It was rightly said one needs to be careful with her words as once said, they can't be taken back and leaves an imprint on your mind.

"they will be in peace because they know they have the best daughter in the world. And their daughter is quiet smart too, who had taken care of entire house and responsibilities in a new place without any complain and are still doing so in such a young age. Unhe ganv hoga aap par aj"

Whole night savitri stayed with geet. They talked till late as geet told her everything about Mumbai to her, and all the truth this time. Their schedule, his pampering her, her taking care of him, everything was told to savitri except few private special moments of their which geet considered too much close to be leaked, after all wo un dono ke darmiyaan tha, wo hasi, wo khushi, wo asu aur, wo dard bhi.
