Should gifted pupils get extra investment?😕😕😕

The brightest 800,000 pupils in England will receive vouchers to spend on extra lessons in a new government scheme.😃

From September, primary and secondary schools will be required to list their gifted and talented pupils so that each one can get about 80 worth of "e-credits".😉

Children can choose to spend the credits on tuition from companies, independent schools and universities.😊

The government is targeting children whose parents can't or won't pay for extra lessons in their goal to double the number of pupils on the gifted and talented register (currently 400,000 or about 5%).😛

😳Is it fair to spend extra money on bright children? Will clever pupils flourish anyway? Would the money be better invested on pupils getting lower grades?😕😳😕

I don't really understand what upsets so many of you. My three daughters ( all at the local comp) have had an excellent education and have done extremely well.Their education has been far better than mine (1970's).Their school streams according to ability. Don't all State schools do this? If not, why not? If all schools streamed there should be no need to return to the Grammar school which didn't suit everyone (me included.)

Is this going to happen in India? cause I doubt it'll work.Firstly they'll pass of influencial family kids as bright students and there will be no one to ensure the credibility. Plus, i think this should be given only to those who are financially weak and bright, that'd do them alot of good as they'd be able to make a career for themselves!

They do. They're called scholarships. Scholarships not only reflect a certain level of natural intellect, but also effort.

I was always particularly gifted since I was a child, but I never received government money, neither would I want to. It's the same principle that leaves schools in poor neighborhoods with a fraction of the money compared to schools in middle and upper-middle class neighborhoods. The fact that the children perform better on standardized tests and get into better schools. As far as the government should be concenred, child A = child B = child C, no matter what the IQ.

However, if Child A's family is very poor on the other hand, and Child B and C are raised in middle-class families, then Child A should receive certain financial benefits to ensure a brighter future.
