The PH have referred to QH as a story about a family who happen to be Muslim. Unlike many shows on Indian television, the relevance of what any religious activities have been kept to the bare minimum. While other shows show their characters actively praying or calling on God for help or using the religious texts to find inspiration or justifying actions, QH has hardly made an attempt to show any of their characters engaging in anything of the sort.

For example, we have seen Zoya pray twice in the show - one time at the beginning and a second time when Dilshaad was injured at the hospital.

Asad was seen praying one time.

Dilshaad once went to see a priest and I believe in that episode ran into Rashid.

Asad saw Zoya at the Daargh? Is that the right word.

Ayaan went to a shrine/daargh to pray for Humeira.

Dilshaad hosted a Qu'ran Khani.

And there you go. Not one mention of the fact Ramzan is one month away. No mention or dialogue of a single character saying "I am going to pray." Or even an attempt to repeat a single line from the Qu'ran or Hadith to validate a point. The closest we got was Dilshaad blasting Shireen with "ooper vala dekh raha hai." I mean even characters who do wrong can be seen praying - it happens in Islam - believe it or not people who do wrong do pray (like those who are suicide bombers do, so why can't Tanveer and Razia 😉)

We have not even seen a creative scene where a religious act could be used within the show. Here's a simple one: Asad and Rashid are at Friday namaaz and they happen to be praying next to each other - traditonally the men hug each other, what do Rashid and Asad do at this point? Acknowledge each other, turn away. Often when you start a new set of prayers or rakat, you switch with the other person- this could be shown with Rashid and Asad. The writers could have had them listening to a Khutbah - a sermon about the importance of family and forgiveness and understanding each other - many verses in the Qu'ran and hadith talk about these values.

If Gul Khan really wanted to show Muslims in a positive light, she could have shown this by highlighting some of the values that the faith has to influence their behavior. However, I believe, because none of the writers have an interest in doing any research in the matter, nothing of this sort will be done.

So with Ramazan coming ahead will the writers even mention it or even show their characters fasting? Will they even show the traditional practices of seheri and iftar, the dishes, the parties, the taking out of new clothes, the celebrations, the parties and what it means to Muslims, OR will this completely be ignored? And after Ramazan, will they even chose to show Eid? Does the PH know when it will start, end, why it happens?

Beyond a trip to Ajmer, we will see hardly anything.

After the ignorance behind the slap and the skirt issue, I have completely lost faith in the PH and their ability to even present a liberal Muslim family. I chose to watch QH because I was excited to see a Muslim family on television, I didn't mind that they had a young girl wearing jeans etc. I would not even have minded if Zoya had had a few drinks while hanging with her friends in New York - which is more common than the wearing of short skirt - YES it is, but for me the lack of research as to what is a Muslim family clearly shows. I would strongly encourage the team to conduct some focus groups from a variety of different groups and get feedback.

Forum32 could start asking Muslims who frequent their site, FB page etc to generate ideas of what Ramazan is to them, what it means and what they do. Those ideas could be integrated into the show. I am sure many would be excited to share and a wealth of information could be derived.

I am really excited for Ramadan cause i will be with my uncles and aunts and cousins well again 😳

Hmm good point Laila Dii, but then i suppose they are still stuck in the 10 days of last to last month, hence no mention of Ramadan.

Jokes apart, i will really appreciate if they celebrate Ramadan too in the show! QH is just like my family, they celebrated HOLI. So i suppose they will Celebrate Ramdan too.

At the end of the day Patience has it all! 😊

Even I wud love it if they show a real Muslim culture in da show which I am ignorant abt.
I wud love 2 c ramzan in da show. I think they will show dat since they have shown Holi. I hope da CVs remember abt dat coz r8 now they r so much obsessed abt Tanveer track. I want 2 know more abt Muslims & I am looking forward 2 it.

While I can see that there is a lot of dramatic impact of having festivals being celebrated (read holi), I personally do not enjoy them being used as plot points. It feels contrived. This has always been an issue for me with tv - whether it's an Indian show or western.

Also, I find it mildly offensive,as an atheist, that shows use god to preach and define morality.

However, I woud like to see Gul have her characters celebrate Ramadan - specifically because the characterization for these character was based on their traditions and values. I would like to see It solely as an organic part of their lives as Muslims rather than have it be a plot point.

As you said if they can celebrate every festival and fast on shows based on other religions, they should not and must not ignore Ramadan.

Well apparently we slap our future spouses and we girls run around in micro minis but do not have the guts or knowledge to speak up when we are slapped or say it is wrong. 🤪 That's how we're being presented.

Completely agree with you. Being Muslim I initially didn't want to watch this show because I had assumed they wouldn't do justice to the Islamic background. I started watching because the show and characters intrigued me, but I can see that I am not that wrong on the Islamic background. I really hope they start focusing less on the Billo rani track and focus more on rest of the story and adding more Islam.

I understand your view point here; however, the point here is that if Gul is using QH as medium to promote a positive look of Muslims, it does not hurt to use elements of the faith as an influencing factor in their lives and decisions. It is not used to preach, but to show that just like other faiths, Muslims too have elements of their faith that promote positive values. Even among liberal Muslims, religion does guide decisions. Bear in mind, as offensive as you find it, if other shows are comfortable showing this, why can't QH?

I will be highly stunned if they show a single character fasting. Thus far it has ignored the birthday of Mohd. - Rabi-Al-Awwal. They did not even mention it. And while SOME Muslims do not acknowledge it, there are a number within India who do.

Oh I am sure they will show it and I shall grin and bear it just like I do other shows.

The show is not about Islam per se, but they do need to pay attention since the characters are Muslim, it is wise to keep at least culturally, a Muslim background. I do not feel the need Islam needs to be introduced or discussed, but in fairness with other shows it would not kill the production team to at least show that someone goes to the mosque, says "inshallah" or "bismillah" or even says a dua when they are struggling with a problem.

Let us say we have the Tanveer track; why not show Zoya making a dua for Asad's welfare? Wouldn't kill them to show that would it? We would have every other character on every show where the characters are Hindu do this, but not Zoya? How come? I don't mean to make this a religious show, but come on, we have one show about Muslims and so far I really don't see anything that defines these people as Muslim other than their names and those names are so ancient that only 60 year old women have them. That goes to show how little work was done in grasping modern day Muslims.
