Chapter 1
Quiet, brooding and driven, Jai is a loner, the only child of a single working mom. He lives in a small town in North Carolina. Sitting at a road side caf on one of a bright sunny day, sipping on his iced latte he caught sight of a stunningly beautiful young girl. She wore a loose floral mini dress with shoulder straps and flip-flops. She had a delicate, slim figure with beautiful curves and smooth dark skin. She looked graceful and innocent, but not at all like the 17 year old she was. Jai himself was not a day over 18. The girl has returned for her senior year back to North Carolina after 8 years of education abroad.
He was amazed at her beauty and though there was an air of pride in her, like every pretty looking girl her age would have, she had a sense of simplicity intact in her.
That evening when jai reached back home, his mother who runs a caf down the street, called out his name worrying jai for a moment.
Jai's mother Janhvi was an attractive woman, a 37 year old single mother, who though did not earn much, earned enough to give her son a comfortable life style.
Jai- ma what happened is everything all right?
Janhvi – yes jai, just wanted to let you know that we have to visit grandma's place today. She isn't feeling very well
Jai- sure, il make sure I have no other plans.
That evening they reached grandma's place by 7. as they entered into the house and then into grandma's room, they saw the same girl jai had seen from the caf.
Grandma- jai, do u remember who this is?
Jai- whoever she is, she sure is a beauty…
Grandma letting out a laugh – jai she is bani. The little girl who was always running behind you!!!
Bani- hey jai! I recognized you at the caf itself, but I was sure you didn't seeing your facial expressions and I didn't wanna ruin the fun!
Jai- bani you sure have grown to become a fine young lady, if I may call you that!
Bani is the 4th child of Raj and Romila Dixit. They were industrialists, easily the biggest in their vicinity. Bani, being the youngest of 2 sisters and an older brother was also the most pampered.
The oldest among them was her brother, Rahul, a young entrepreneur, the managing director of his family business. He was married to an equally dynamic woman by the name of Shaisvi.
Bani's older sister, Ria was a lawyer by profession. She had just completed her law, but with her ability and intelligence it wouldn't come as a surprise to see her as a partner in a few years.
Ishita was 2 years older to bani, presently in the Harvard, doing medicine. Though she was your typical show stopper, she was also the ideal girl, the girl who fit the phrase beauty with brains the best.
Grandma was infact Bani's grandma but affectionately she was called that by everyone close to her. Bani was very close to her and lived with her and not with her parents. She was joining the same school as jai and taking the same classes ironically.
A few days into school and jai and bani became inseparable. Though they never denied the fact that they were attracted to each other it was a purely platonic relationship. They walked to school together, had their lunch together, had the same group of friends and even did their home work together.
Jai was a basketball player, and a very good one. Easily one of the best the team had. Basketball was his life until now. Slowly bani started coming to cheer him for his matches. She then with the help of a friend, who was in the cheerleading squad, became a cheerleader. Everything seemed perfect, the way it should be.
But jai was having alternate thoughts about this entire setup…
