MIYAN BIWI AUR TV!

Do television actors find being married to somebody from the same profession a boon or a bane?

GITA HARI

The wedding season is in full swing and the telly world seems to be taking full advantage of it. The telly world if full of couples, both vying with each other for serials and anchoring shows. Let us find out if they enjoy being in the same profession or not. While many couples would vouch to work together as it helps to be together, there are some who feel it is good as it keeps them away from each other for long hours!
"At times, it is an advantage and at other times it is a disadvantage," says Rajeshwari Badola as both hubby Varun Badola and she are in the same profession, adding, "Basically it depends on the individuals. It is not necessary that couples in different fields are compatible but it is hugely a state of mind."
"When your partner is also into acting in serials, he/she comprehends the problems of time management and the demands of your profession. Certain scenes, which a person from another field will not understand, is taken easily by another actor
as they know it is a world of makebelieve and not true," is what Sai Deodhar, who is doing Ek Ladki Anjaani Si on Sony with hubby Shakti Anand finds the most endearing and the shortcoming is in the form of your spouse being the worst critic of your performances.
Rajev and Delnaazz Paul joke in chorus, "We have common friends and common enemies. We don't have to give detailed explanations about our whereabouts. Giving each other time has never been an issue as we are choosy and do only select roles."
Shilpa Saklani and Apurva Agnihotri who are busy shooting the whole day for their serials aver that there is no time for each other except Sundays and that's when they catch up with their friends with whom both of them connect.
Says Maninee De who's married to Mihir Mishra, "I think when you're married to an actor, you tend to empathise more with their situation." She adds that they share a better understanding as they both are actors and can discuss work with each other. "We share ideas and thoughts all the time," she adds. According to Maninee, there are pros as well as cons to two actors tying the knot. "Hectic schedules make it tough to spend time with each other. So Mihir and I have decided not to work on Sundays, as that's the only day we get to spend with each other and our daughter," she says.
There are some actresses who have temporarily quit acting after birth of their child, for instance, Poonam Narula Goyal, Gauri Tonk, Gautami Kapoor, to take care of the house and bring up the child. Like Rajesh Kumar says, "If we have a child, either of us will sit at home." That's the kind of understanding and thoughtfulness that our TV couples share, for nowhere else will you find a man saying 'I will quit my job and sit at home'!
