Coolie: Trailer of Rajinikanth, Lokesh Kanagaraj's movie 'strictly average'? Fans declare Vikram as superior

This Independence Day it is Coolie Vs War 2 at the box office. While the Rajinikanth movie is mainly for South Indian audiences, War 2 is targeting both North and South. They have roped in Jr NTR who is a big presence in the South Indian industry. The trailer of Coolie has got a mixed response. We can see that Rajinikanth is the messiah to fight a crime kingpin who is dealing in biological weapons of war. The trailer has all the elements of a Lokesh Kanagaraj movie. The large canvas, exhilarating BGM, action and elevated mass scenes of actors.

There are many who believe Lokesh Kanagaraj cut a better trailer of Vikram and Leo. Vikram that had Kamal Haasan in the lead is hailed as one of his best mass action movies. Leo, too has its share of gore and intensity. In the trailer of Coolie, there is a huge element of mystery. We do not know the relationship of Deva with any of the main characters. Aamir Khan makes a fleeting appearance toting two machine guns, one in each hand. Nagarjuna and Shahir Soubin seem to be having a lot of fun, especially the latter. Kannada star Upendra is also in the movie.

Lokesh Kanagaraj is one of the most respected filmmakers down south. He is known for his story-telling and stylish narration. The makers have used cameras fit for a near perfect IMAX experience. However, all the IMAX screens are taken up by WAR 2. While the hype is there, some of the viewers have been too critical about Coolie. War 2 was also called out for poor colour grading and some shoddy VFX in the trailer. This is one aspect of Indian movies that often come in for flak.
