hmmmmmmm, interesting topic.

I don't speak Hindi, but I do speak Urdu. but what u guys are discussing, tu I think Hindi and Urdu stand on the same level.

here in canada, talking in english is so zaroori for so many ppl. I have seen ppl coming to canada, and forgetting Urdu/Hindi in two months. jisi bhi bolye gaye, english ho bolye gaye, chahye woh french lag rahi ho!!! 😆

in my high skool and then in college, I noticed that many students from India, only speak English. even if they know Hindi, they prefer to speak English.

but u know in skools and all that, teachers tell their students to talk in their mother language, coz they will learn english anyways, it is important to learn ur own langauge, but nahian!!! Canada kehna aata nahian theek saye, aur angrzi bolni hai khul keh!!!

Well, I agree with a lot of you people in india believe that speaking Hindi is a trend. (You have to do it). At home with my mum, my grandparents, my aunts and uncles all my relatives I speak in Punjabi with them because, it's my mother tongue. I have this boy in my class whom is from India but, he can't write and read in Hindi. It's appaling because, he can speak and talk in English but, he can't speak his mother tongue. Ok ,fair enough it's understood that a lot of people need english for their jobs. It isn't fair though that after coming to the US or UK people forget their own language and start speaking english. Fair enoguh with people maybe you don't know you can definitley converse in english but, with your family is it fair to keep speaking english. A lot of my cousins (Far related) speak english over here whom have recently come from India, its like you have come from India speak punjabi not only people from India but, also from the Uk and Us. "Canada kehna aata nahian theek saye, aur angrzi bolni hai khul keh!!!" 😆 😆 Exactly, its funny you know they can't say England properly and there trying to speak English. You can understand their point of view that English is needed and therefore, speaking English is vital btu, does that mean one should stop speaking punjabi, Hindi, Urdu. my cousin a couple of years back to India and she told me that everything in India has changed "A lot of people speak English and don't btoher speaking in Hindi". India is India by speaking English it ain't going to tuern itno England or the US. Right? All I am trying to say is that if people from England can speak Hindi/ Punjabi then why can't people from India do that?

I strongly feel that people who move outside India get more connected to India and everything Indian. I speak Hindi at home but my cousins in India overwhelmingly speak English at home and outside. I think Hindi doesn't get the respect that it should get because people in India are obsessed with everything west.

definatly agree with u ...in India ppl are becoming reali western its quite weird considering i was born n brought up in London [UK] im still quite indian!

shukar hai ki yahan kuch log hein jo ab bhi hindi bolte hain.....mujhe khud usa aake 9 saal ho gaye lekin abhi bhi agar koi desi milta hai aur use hindi aati hai to hindi mein hi baat karne ka maan karta hai...just the Indian in me 😊
PS am not averse to people conversing in different languages....but I feel Hindi was cosnsidered to be the national language so that it could unite all Indians and give them a common ground...
