Asad was pacing up and down his room. He really felt overwhelmed. There were a good deal of issues at work that any normal day would have seen him work till late in the night. Some were time critical. The normally methodical Asad felt like he was someone else today. In a few hours word of his impending Nikaah would go around the city. His Ammi had managed to invite half the town within no time. How many times did she do this in her head...thought Asad. She must have really looked forward to him settling down because all that she had pulled together today was nothing short magic.
Asad saw her walking around with a really BIG smile on her face. He had made it very clear to Zoya that this was all a charade for Ammi. But why on Earth did he keep looking to see, her. He just could not resist looking into her eyes during the "fake sagai" and could not stop his heart from somersaulting everytime she looked up to see into his eyes. It was painfully clear to Asad this was no "fake sagai"for Zoya. All the names and words that she threw at him not withstanding!
He was clueless about what to wear but that did not even bother him. He knew that there would always be a great looking Tux in his wardrobe that he could let himself into, or Ammi anyways had a truck load of traditional wear for him. He knew he could count of his 6 packs .Ammi and Tamatar were walking around matching something...and obviously they had no time for him.
Asad wanted a moment of quiet. He walked out to the garden. Sat on the bench shielding his eyes from the afternoon sun. He saw a shadow slump down Zoya's window. His need for quiet was replaced by his need to see Zoya now! Somehow it did not feel right.
Asad ran towards Zoya's room completely unnoticed. He heard Tanu reminding her about how she would be all alone this evening with no one from her family, He realised that she must have said something in the same vein and that was why Zoya slumped to the floor completely crushed. He stared at Tanu and asked her to leave the room as Ammi wanted her.
He walked straight to Zoya who had refused to look up at him. He crouched in front of her. He was preparing to see a tear stained face trying to form words that would soothe her ' remember I am always there for you' he thought he would tell her. She still refused to look up. "Zoya" he said softly. She looked up surprised...she seemed unaware of him. She looked deeply into his eyes, touched his cheek...as if she was ensuring he was really there. Smiled a small smile, she looked at him like a child would look at a loving parent - trusting and completely candid. She too got on her knees to get to his eye level and said " pata hai Mr. Khan ab mujhe lagta hai ki I'm not alone in this world. Aap hain...but more than that Phoophi hai, tamatar hai, jeeju aur appi bhi hai... Kahbhi be itni badi family nahi thee meri...Thank you she said. Ab sagai nakhli ho ya ,,," Asad picked her hand held it warmly between his own and asked her " yeh apko nakli lagti hai" ...nooo she shook her head too stunned to say anything. " Can i hug you" she asked him. " iske pehle poochke hug karthi thi kya aap" he replied. "Par phele tho sochthi thi ke nakli..."
Asad hugged her close kissed her on her head. He felt her smile on his neck. "This is as good a proposal I'm going to get from Akadu Khan" she thought. Ah Zoya if you can trust me this much after all that I have done to you...I'm ready for a lifetime of work trying to be worthy of your love" he thought. "Zoya" he said I have never felt so complete was what he wanted to say!
Zoya sensed something about his hug felt different. She probed his eyes, his eyes said all that he wanted to say.. " I know I do complete you and your unsaid sentences ...aur haan aap mujhe kiss kar.." was all she could manage before she got a simple kiss on her cheek. " Zoya I must stop now" he said. Her jaw dropped when she felt a poke on her abdomen.😳
