How long do you think that recorded music should be protected for?
More than 4,500 recording artists have signed an advertisement demanding an extension of copyright on recordings from 50 years to 95 years.
Sir Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard and U2 are among those who signed the advert.
Their action comes the day after the Gowers Report, commissioned by the government to look into modernising UK copyright laws, recommended the protection should not be extended but proposed tougher penalties for copyright criminals.
What must be done to fight music piracy? Should you be able to copy music from person to person? Do you download music from the internet?
"This is driven by sheer greed. Even fifty years is too long. It is right that artists and composers should gain benefit from their work but what's a fair amount? If someone really does have a talent it can continue to be rewarded through new compositions, not lying back and raking in the benefits of what may have been a flash in the pan. Set the limit at twenty-five years and some maximum return (variable according to type) and then copyright expires whenever the first limit is reached. Good?"
