Detailed Update - 08 December

Ammaji calls Alaka in front of her and asks Chaubey Maharaj to tell everybody what crime she had committed. Maharaj tells her what he had seen the other night in the temple, Alaka stumbled on the staircase and Shan had picked her up in his arms and carried her upstairs. Everybody is stunned. Ammaji comes and stands in front of Alaka and asks her whether such a thing had happened. Alaka tries to tell her about the incident but Ammaji stops her and asks her to answer in 'yes' or 'no' whether she had been touched by someone else. Alaka bows her head down and answers in the affirmative. Ammaji is stunned and so are other members of the family.

Ammaji returns back to her seat and tells everybody assembled in the hall that although Alaka is the bahu of the Bharadwaj family, yet she will also have to practice penance since she had also broken the cardinal rules of widowhood. Meera starts crying and runs to her room to call Shan on his cell. But Shan's cell doesn't connect. Also the flame of the Nyaya Pradeep that Yash and Shan had taken to the river ghats for sending it afloat in the Ganges gets extinguished. The panditji tells the two brothers that now they cannot return to Benaras immediately and will have to stay there to perform yagna and then again free the pradeep in the water. Then only can they return home. Otherwise, something very bad will happen in their home and the process of justice in their house will be hampered. Shan tries to come back home since he's feeling restless but Yash asks him to stay back and complete the yagna and then return to the house, since he ahd soemthign very important to do and had to go to Lucknow then.

Meera is still in the room when Shlok comes and tells her that Alaka is leaving. Meera rushes outside the room but she meets Alaka wearing an entirely black saree. Meera is stunned and she keeps on asking Alaka what had Ammaji asked her to do. At that moment, Gauri comes and tells Meera that Alaka had been ordered to stand on one foot in the blazing sun for 48 hours, then take dips in the cold water and then circle the main temple on her haunches 51 times. Meera is scandalized. Gauri tells Alaka that although Alaka was trying to teach her about culture and tradition, its of no use sicne she doesn't want to learn something that treats people so badly. Alaka asks Meera not to question Ammaji's justice and requests Meera to get her tulsi mala from her room. Once Meera is inside the room, Alaka closes the door from outside so that Meera is not able to stop her. Meera pleads a lot to Alaka to let her out of the room but to no avail.

Alaka comes down to the hall in the black saree. Amamji tells Chaubey Maharaj that Alaka's purification process will take place under his guidance. Alaka leaves with Maharaj and his team. On the other side, Shan is desperate to return home.

Oh my God! How horrible a punishment!
This is utterly unacceptable!
Ya ok our traditions say that once a widow always a widow but in todays world, one has the right to fall in love again!
It is pure injustice being done to a widow! Whats her fault that her husband died?!
And it is just pure cruelty to make someone stand barefoot under the sun for two days and then do the rounds of the temple! What kind of justice is this?

Pinky, I forgot to mention, in fact Meera questioned this to Alaka - that if you are prunished for tocuhing Shan Uncle then he should also be ounished for touching you?

But the plight of the widows in the cow belt is very bad guys. And it still is.

this is sooooo not fair. in this day and age too widows r treated so badly?? wouldnt it be better if she just went back forever to her maasi's house!!

During those 48 hours, during night time Alaka would have to recite the Gita continuously without taking even a sip of water.

Absolute hell, I tell you dears.

I almost don't feel like watching this serial anymore. This is disgusting - in this day and age to even make a serial with these atrocities shown in them!!!!
