Watch the flashback sequence! Onir met Purvi at the school/orphanage and was falling in love with her. Later he discovered she was pregnant and found an excuse to ask her to marry him, saying society is cruel to unwed mothers.
Who knows, maybe Onir is an orphan too, because they didnt show any family members on his side. Thats why he sympathizes with Purvi even more. But he did fall in love with her first then found out abt her pregnancy.
Protective instinct is very strong in guys like Onir, he will do anything to protect "poor, helpless" Purvi, even go to jail for her stupid sacrifice drama!
