I saw this running marquee on the forums and clicked on it.

No reservation for Muslims on religious basis: Nitish Kumar

Patna, Nov 27 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Monday said he was opposed to reservation for Muslims on religious basis but favoured quotas on the base of their social and educational backwardness.

'I am against reservation on the basis of religion,' Nitish Kumar told reporters here.

'My stand is clear - provide reservation on social and educational backwardness, not on religious grounds.'

Asked about his government's stand, he said this was his personal opinion and not of his party - the Janata Dal-United.

The chief minister said he favoured inclusion of Muslim and Christian Dalits in the Scheduled Castes category.
