Hi Srushti,
Glad to see you back. In bet'n quite a lot been passed. Though ME was pretty well, but it is already tasting our act of faith in its logic content. A semi literate God man passing extrajudicial judgement, sentence and abeyance in today's India, that too, in lording over a son of one of the most powerful business tycoon of the town- and over an obscure, old mindset trivia...well I am turning my believing eyes to other side, where in plus, we had powerful rebound from Kumud's past missteps (accused) - kind of reinstatement- and beautiful bonding moments bet'n the leads, which is more relevant here, I suppose.😛
Besides, beautifully conceived Lead scenes, i loved Guniyal- Kumud scene. Look at Guniyal's prudential reality check, ' perhaps a wife may share such suffering, and mind you my daughter, you are not arriving at that relationship, so be cautious'. And yet, she is not restraining her- rather, encouraging her to support on ground of ethics or justice. See?a follow up to the original is contributing only to its credibility, unlike a creative licence freely out reaching it's scope, for e.g. Dukhba- Saras bungle...😕

Hi Samarth...Oh I know ..lots of equations changed...though I am not a big fan of marham patti scene that happened..but I guess that is each to his own... A semi literate God man passing extrajudicial judgement, sentence and abeyance in today's India, that too, in lording over a son of one of the most powerful business tycoon of the town- and over an obscure, old mindset trivia...Well this part does exist in many villages across the country, believe me..The existence of which does shake our conscience...but that is the truth. apart from that I kind of liked how the pandit did hear Kumud and inspite of her past rebellions, did understand that she was right in her logic anyways...although the punishment did boggle my mind😕well I am turning my believing eyes to other side, where in plus, we had powerful rebound from Kumud's past missteps (accused) - kind of reinstatement- and beautiful bonding moments bet'n the leads, which is more relevant here, I suppose.😛 oh yes..the leads were the saving grace..and by them I do include Vidychatur and Guniyal...in fact I kind of liked how Laxminandan has been hiding secrets from Guman as well...he is not as blind as he seems, does he?..He does consider his friendship with Vidyachatur in its own special way...Let us hope that continues and he doesnot, one fine day, have a memory loss, and starts accussing Vidyachatur of random things...straight out of Maine Pyaar Kiya😆

Hey Srushti,
Laxminandan has to be assertive. You know, final reconciliation and 'Saras, khoj' by his friend would be initiated on his writ only na!
As for Guniyal- VC, you know this sub plot was one happy ending thread in this complex novel (have already put my hand on the nivel and reading in spare time,😆 lots of changes in adaptation here). But as I had written elsewhere- 'Gun Sundari aka Guniyal had always been a powerful prototype from where Kumud's sensitivity and perspicacity has been derived and nourished. Young Guniyal's growth was a powerful sub story in the original. Glad, Director is giving some justice to the original here.'
Adding to this, flashback may show some of the original. There Sundar was one of first benefactor of her kindness. She rescued her from a destituteness, as well, much of the family, and her recourses stretched to their limit. In the monetary constraint, they are following the original to an extent but family's inherent claim on her hospitality by way of ancestral commonwealth is a major change here, diluting her heroics.
As for Dukhba, for once I am liking this change in adaptation ( and thereby a hope too!😉) The character is drawing from some of the original Guniyal's trait. Plus, an assumption, Dukhba- Guman rivalry is deliberately planned in forefront. I think, to take away some of the
blame from hero's guilt towards his devastating 'second' step ( in original) which led to so much 'destruction'. An important trigger, which I never liked much in original either...😕 And I think, here they are changing entire scenario...

Adding to your above point,
KHAP panchyats may be powerful elsewhere in India. But in more progressive Gujarat, that is not a case. Internet and electricity have indeed penetrated deep in remote villages, making it glaring or difficult for closed out, extra judicial, oligarchic excesses sustained by inaccessible or non existing communications. Plus, in Gujarat, society has always been more definitively influenced by Mahajan system, which had a distinct trait of relatively 'liberal' oligarchic norms than the former hegemony...and I agree, Pandit was markedly restrained, concurring above claims.
