Priya files defamation case against Mandhira
Priya Sachdeva Kapur filed a civil defamation suit in the Delhi High Court on Thursday, seeking ?20 crore in damages from Mandhira Kapur Smith and podcast host Pooja Chaudhri. In the suit, Priya claimed that statements made about her through podcasts, interviews, social media posts, and republished online content have significantly damaged her reputation and caused emotional distress.
Priya is seeking a decree for damages totaling ?20 crore, citing loss of reputation, mental anguish, and social humiliation.
Additionally, she has requested the court to issue injunctions preventing Mandhira and the podcast host from further publishing or circulating any allegedly defamatory content about her. She also wants them to remove the existing material from digital and social media platforms.
Details about the case
Following the death of billionaire businessman Sunjay Kapur in London in June 2025, a legal battle has unfolded. In August, Karisma Kapoor, Sunjay's wife from 2003 to 2016, sued Priya on behalf of their children, alleging that Priya fabricated Sunjay's will, excluding the children from their inheritance.
Subsequently, Mandhira appeared on Pooja Chaudhari's podcast, "InControversial with Pooja Chaudhri," where she made claims allegedly derogatory to Priya. The lawsuit alleges that this content, along with similar statements in interviews and social media posts, was widely shared and republished online. In addition to the civil suit, Priya Sachdev has also filed a criminal defamation complaint against Mandhira Kapur Smith and another individual.
Priya married Sunjay Kapur in 2017 and they have a son together. She is currently facing a lawsuit from Sunjay's children with Karisma Kapoor, Kiaan Raj and Samara, who claim that the will submitted by Priya is a forgery aimed at excluding them from their inheritance. Sunjay's mother, Rani Kapur, is also involved in the separate legal proceedings.
