| | | | Kavita played the role of Saif Ali Khan's girlfriend in Ek Hasina Thi | Two years ago, Kavita Kaushik was like any average, college-going teen in Delhi when she auditioned for a role in Sony's hit daily soap Kutumb. "I had enrolled for a mass communication course at Jamia Milia in Delhi. The team from Kutumb was in the city, around that time, scouting for new faces.
My mother thought I should give it a shot considering that I always had a keen interest in acting. I auditioned and got selected for the part," she says.
Since then this 24-year-old actress, who lives in Goregaon (W), has bagged pivotal roles in several serials like Kahani Teri Meri (Sahara One), Piya Ka Ghar (Zee) and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki (Star Plus). Not only that, she has also starred in the Ram Gopal Verma production Ek Hasina Thi with Urmila Matondkar and Saif Ali Khan.
"Someone from the RGV camp had seen my work and felt that I was perfect for the role. It was a small role but the experience of working with the entire team was enriching," says Kavita.
Kavita seems to have made a habit of playing evil, scheming vamps on the mini-screen "I don't know why so many negative roles have come my way. Maybe it has something to with my personality or the way I look. But I have no qualms about doing them. I think there is scope for performance even in negative roles.
Besides, all my roles are not the typically, black and white negative characters," she says. Her current roster includes roles in Kesar (Star Plus), Remix (Star One) and Tumhari Disha (Zee).
But her most famous role, so far, has been that of the psychotic and obsessive Manya (Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki). "It is my favourite amongst all the characters I have played so far. It was so unique, energetic and honest," says Kavita.
"The character was surreal and so unlike me," she adds. But she claims that other roles have also been equally satisfying. "My character Porinita in Tumhari Disha is also very challenging," she says.
Kavita has other passions besides acting. "I love to sing and cook. I can make some delicious pasta and chilly chicken," she says. So what is Kavita's idea of a great evening? "Watching television in my room semi-lit with candles, with pasta and chilly chicken for dinner," she laughs.
Kavita on Goregaon The place I love Goregaon because of its accessability. It is convenient to travel from here to all my shooting locations. Hangouts I love Pop Tate's and Peking Tom. I also love the food at this restaurant called Images; their Tandoori Pomfret is delicious. After a shoot, I like hanging out at the Mindspace Caf Coffee Day with my friends. |
