well when they call it a "remake" they are admitting that its not original...what about the several copies of Hollywood and regional movies where they borrow the story and scenes shamelessly and refuse to acknowledge that it is a copy...

Whats the word they use... ya..."inspiration"... 🤢 🤢 atleast "remake" is a more honest term 😉

PS- There are so many examples but one that I can recall immediately is Baazigar which was lifted straight from a Hollywood flick...the makers didnt call it a remake or even an inspirated version for that matter!

it's not true that indian movies are all about remaking, there are many original works which are just awesome movies. But the fact is, remake movies are more famous/popular, got the brightest stars, very expensive and highly advertized, so that people generally know the indian film industry by those remade-Thingy.

Talk abt the 'Munna bhai' movie, which is being remade in hollywood. Satyajeet Roy own an oscar for God's sake. There are plenty of creative personalities like Mira Nair. But the fact is, most producers and storywriters in the indian movies are not very interested to go through the back-breaking pain of creating something brand new. We'd need more talented people in the script writing/directing/concepts depertments
Anyway, I am disappointed with Umrao-Jaan music. All of Shahryar-Khayyam-Asha ji trio were superior to Javed-Akhtar-Anu Malik-Alka Yagnik combination and the differential in the sum is exponantially more striking than sum of the individual differentials.

I doubt Ash can show the maturity of Rekha. But who will play Naseer's masterfully understated role?
I agree completely. Rekha was simply mesmerising in Umrao Jaan. The music is a big disappoinment, heard it yes'day, esp since the earlier one had splendid music. I think Asha Bhosle got national award for "In aankhon ki masti ke mastaane hazaaron hain". even Khayyam got National Award.
