Bollywood Hungama | Taran Adarsh
Vinnil Markan, taking his first stab at direction, handles the light moments with flourish. He sure knows how far to stretch a joke. But Vinnil flounders subsequently, since the writing lets him down. Sachin-Jigar's music is a mixed bag. 'Aa Bhi Jaa' is the sole track you'd like to hum after the show has concluded. I'd like to make a special mention of the witty dialogue, especially the lines delivered by Vivek. They are genuinely funny.

The problem with JKLS is that it ties not only the audience but also the actors of the film in a tight knot of which neither the plot nor performances, except Oberoi's, help to break out of.

That's when the thought popped into our disappointed heads – Vivek Oberoi can perhaps do justice only to the role of a gangster, a bhai. And he should! No one does it the way he can, so why not? Hope you have a decent answer to this one, Vivek – did you agree happily to become the dismal Jayantabhai? Hate you for that.

To be honest, while watching the film my mind kept going back to the charming and suave lover boy image Vivek donned in Saathiya. His good acting has blurred out in our memories because it was that long ago! This man has lost his edge in trying very hard to fit into the stereotypical moulds of Bollywood tailored roles. He is not even half the actor he was in Saathiya or in Company for that matter. However I admit this judgment of mine is based on a film which is awfully weak. The film does very little to defend any of its actors for that matter. Vivek's Tapori lingo and safe work tries hard to push the film but the not-so-dignified dim witted screenplay butchers it all.

Vinnil Markan's 'feel-good' goofy 'gangsta' story is told with simplicity and modesty. It's not a slick, stylized gang-fest with shootouts and shenanigans, but an uncomplicated story of a good-goonda who wears his heart (instead of his gun) on his sleeve.

Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story is one of the most mundane plots to have come in the recent times. There's not an iota of originality in the plot neither in the script nor in the dialogues. The gags are jaded and don't even evoke a smile leave alone a feeble giggle.

JKLS is an ordinary love story. While Neha's character is believable, Jayantabhai (Vivek Oberoi) is a forced element in the script. Bhaigiri is by-the-way. Jayantabhai is a loner who has been living all his life doing the odd job for a local gangster. Besides using his fists, he knows nothing. Of course, he does have a heart of gold, though. And this heart he loses to his 'padosan''bhadotri', Simran, who is forced to quit her posh company flat as recession hits them.

The romantic comedy shows promise initially but gradually settles for the mundane, especially after the intermission. It could have been a funny love story had it stuck to the trials and tribulations of the couple rather than the script trotting off to a hotch-potch.
