Sting operations!!

Dear friends!!!

I just wish to know your views on sting operations in the field of electronic and print media.

What is the net profit for aam admi because of sting operations?

Will the government take any actions on those people bit by sting operation!!(Most of the cases NO!!!)

Are the news channels,news paper people just trying to sell news?

Will you again vote for the people caught in some sting operation?

Sardesai will not be arrested, U.P. assures court

Rajdeep Sardesai New Delhi : With the Editor-in-Chief of CNN-IBN, Rajdeep Sardesai, agreeing to appear before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on October 27 pursuant to a resolution passed by it and the State Government assuring the court that it would not arrest him, the Supreme Court on Thursday disposed of a petition filed by Mr. Sardesai challenging the resolution. Mr. Sardesai had sought a stay on the operation of the resolution directing him to appear in person to explain a charge of breach of privilege for telecasting a sting operation involving its MLAs. When the petition came up for admission before a three-judge Bench, comprising Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal, Justice C.K. Thakker and Justice R.V. Raveendran, senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi said that Mr. Sardesai would appear in person before the Assembly without any police escort. Senior counsel for the State said that it was one of those unfortunate incidents and accepted the suggestion of Mr. Rohatgi. The Bench then disposed of the matter. In the sting operation telecast earlier this year, three MLAs, including a then Minister, were shown purportedly taking bribes and allegedly admitting to involvement in activities such as 'hawala' transactions.

This was considered breach of privilege of the House and a resolution was passed on October 11 asking the police to produce Mr. Sardesai before the Assembly on October 27.

Good One Mythili ... really we have to think about the effects these sting operations have on common people and do they actually lead us, the common people, anywhere.

In most cases, there are no results in front of us to learn from - we only see the crimes committed, the criminals or persons involved but justice? Delayed or not, it hardly enters the picture.

Minnie, I agree with you, its always the women who ahve to bear the worst brunt for any mistakes committed or any fallacies along the way ...

Good Topic Mythilli! I was raised outside of India so I can only give you an outsiders view. These sting operations are just sensationalism in India. Nothing comes of it. They perform the sting and then the polictician, business person just greases a few palms, lets the process drag out and eventually when our ADD nation loses focus and moves on to the sacandal( more than liekly involving some bollywood celebrity's love life) they will walk away scot free.

Incidently not all sting ops are bad, there is one on dateline NBC where this guy catches chatroom predators. They get lured to the house to meet what they think is a teemage boy or girl but the get busted and arrested insyead

It just exposed them as ignorant idiots that we all presume the acorfolks to be in general. But they are paying price.

Abhijeet I do agree with what you have written. If and when we are talking of celebrities or stars of any form and size, we are basically interested in their private lives, in the general context. But we most often ignore their public life and/ or the way they conduct themselves in public. Today, we ahve so many stars campaigning for re-instating Pepsi and Coke in India once again (assuming that their psoitions have slipped by a little) but how many of them are actually conversant with the entire technique of judging whether these drinks are harmful or not? I know I am being off-limits over here but in India, at least, in most cases, I feel that stars and public figures are given much more leeway than they should be destined to.

As for men being the broken golden rings, it is just a general statement, not meant to offend anyone.
