Asad - He is weighed down by so many things , feelings and fears at the moment. As if his life wasn't already a sad opera show already, he just appears more and more weighed down now - by his feelings for Zoe, his own turmoil and difficulty to deal with his heart and mind, his desperation to hide and protect the truth of Mangalpur from his family , his worry and concern that Zoe , Mariyam will land into a hot soup with Dilaawar. Earlier, he used to be irritated and now, he has become touchy and anxious. He doesn't want Zoe to touch him ( check out the reaction he gives when Zoe slightly holds his hand to stop him from going into the store room) - he tells her dangerously that he will never have any interest in her. He wishes all could be sorted out - he has lost his peace of mind, his sanity, his sleep and Mariyam is not making things easy either.
Zoe - She is the one who carries a massive weight on her shoulders but her shoulders do not slump. The weight of an unknown past, of an unknown mysterious father , of Asad's complete rejection of her as a human being , of being a do-gooder martyr and now, Mariyam. Life is comparatively easier for her because she lives in a happy make believe world where she turns everything into a joke and a war of wits. She appears steady and fearless but one word from Asad , and she turns into a tear-puddle. Today, her face did fall for a nano second when Asad told her that he has no interest in her and he will never have any interest in her. So, the bambi-eyed beauty carries the weight of her mystery father on her head while Asad weighs down on her heart and Mariyam on her shoulders.
Rashid- What do we know about this man? Bigamist? Unfaithful? Spineless? Sissy? Who knows. He carries the weight of having loved and betrayed two women - Dilshad and Shireen. Of being an incompetent father to all his kids. Of being in servitude of Maamu and Mumaani. Of living a life that he chose but is driven by the tiger-eyed Razia. We do not know his story but his hands are coloured in someone's blood and his clothes soaked in someone's tears. Just like his own son Asad, Rashid burns alone on the inside as everyone plays soccer with him.
Humzie- Fragile almond-eyed nymph like beauty weighed down by the rocksolid weight of an unrequited love , she lives life like a tear drop in the rain. Like Zoe, her shoulders do not slump , but her eyes give her away. She has the strength of spirit and her love has pride. She doesn't want Ayaan as alms in a bowl. She wants him as a man in love with her. She cries, she falters , yet she refuses to let the world see how broken hearted she is. She holds her pretty head high , throws away Ayaan's hand and says it in regal self respect - Ayaan, hum kya paagal hain, jo aapse nikaah karenge?
