Arre aajkal to aaj-kal to Hindi waalon ko khud hindi bolne mein sharm aati hai. Disgusting, pathetic. 😡 This problem is mainly with our middle/upper-middle/elites population.

If you listen to any FM channel or any hindi TV channel, people whenever they are asked a quesion in hindi, they pretend as if they don't know hindi and answer in english. Girls seem to have more of this attitude than boys. Our Bollywood stars...kehne ko hindi films mein kaam kartein hain, lekin hamesha english mein interviews dete hain. Every award, be it Filmfare/Screen/Zee/IIFA/Stardust..all acceptance speeches are in English, infact all speeches are in English. Ek-do ko chhod kar sab english jhadte rehte hain.

🤢

thos naag ji shat prishat sehmat hoon aapse👏 .

neela heera ji meri ID shudh Hindi mein hai .acchi hai na? 😃

I want to share it with u. if i know that the person whom I m talking with knows Hindi or Punjabi I cant speak english with her/him. chahe woh english mein bole mein hindi or punjabi mein bolti hoon. haar ke bechare ko bhi hindi or punjabi mein baat karni parti hai😆😆. agar koi phir bhi naa bole to mein to seedha munh pe bole deti hoon kya tumhein hindi / punjabi nahin aati. agar aati hai to phir bolo.

and I feel soo proud of that😃

While Science is possible to learn in Hindi, at least in my field, doing graduate and postgraduate studies in the same language as the language of learning science in school does make a BIG difference. AgraBhujasthi, Yakrut and Majja-setu are far cry from Ulna and Radius, liver and Medula Oblongota respectively.

I think we should continue using those "English" terms (Allopathy afterall😆), they can be written in Devnagari.

We also need to accept the fact that English has unofficially become the national language of India. English is a 'neutral' language unlike Hindi which is perceived as a 'North Indian' language. That is why Tamilians or Keralites will not be so offended if they are addressed in English as opposed to Hindi.

In Singapore, where I live, there are 4 official languages - English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. In this way, most of the languages spoken by citizens here have been made official languages. This might be a little difficult to implement in India.

The problem with India is that it is like a continent with different countries just like Europe. In fact, even the size of each Indian state is about the size of a European country. Just like France, Italy, Germany and other countries in Europe have their own language, the Indian states have their own culture and heritage. Of course they are all bound together by a common, shared heritage as well.

In France, no one will answer if you speak in English, even if they know English! It is a matter of their national pride.

It is not so easy for South Indians to accept Hindi as a national language.

Hi Friends!!!
Hindi is our national language,so learning Hindi will be a great advantage. It does'nt mean we need to communicate only in Hindi in public.See!!! Most of the people of nothern states of India have their mother tongue as Hindi,so it is not a big deal to speak in Hindi.BTW most of the South Indians manage to learn Hindi very easily as this is not a herculian task.Hindi is very easy compared to Telugu,Tamil,Malayalam. Most of the Hindi people think Hindi is universal and they try to speak only in Hindi even though its not a necessity in that what's wrong in south Indians not speaking in Hindi.Consider for an instant Sanskrit as our national language then I really wonder how many north Indians speak it well.
On the otherside I really feel elergic to people who like confusing non local people with local language.Earlier in Hyderabad most of the people used to speak only in Hindi and people from other parts of the state used to get scared to communicate with the people or to get their works done. One more sad thing is that in Chennai non tamil people will face hell reg names, bus destinations and all,all these things will be only in Tamil.
Language is for better communication. We need to have love to our mother tongue,it does'nt mean we should be tight lipped in the case of other languages.
Cheers,
Mythili

It may be a language of Business/Admin but it is definitely not a language of people. Just bec'se we see it on Media doesn't mean much, ground realities are different. In a way I think Globalisation has helped Hindi too but that is a different matter. BTW, it is not a question of Neutral or Perception, it does not mean a Foreign Language should be given so much respect at the cost of our Languages. Tomorrow should we import a PM from US/UK? The solution has to from within, the official language should be our own, talking about "imposition" and imposing a Foreign Language...I mean it is ridiculous. And if I am correct only one Southern State (Tamil Nadu) is paranoid about Hindi, even those Anti-Hindi riots (in 60s) happened in TN only. We need to sensitize people about respecting other Indian Languages...yeh nahin ki English laao.

It is not so easy for South Indians to accept Hindi as a national language.

How about a out of the box solution (Musharraf may sue me for using this phrase😆), make Sanskrit our National Language, revive it like Israelis did with Hebrew. It is such a beautiful poetic language. It is also the mother of most Indian Languages.
