^^I completely agree that there is no one Indian accent. Many factors determine the accent, and it varies according to region, education and other factors.

Agreed. No one has a problem except us. We are the ones that feel inferior about the Indian accent.

Exactly @bold. Especially Kangana's accent. She would not face the same sort of ridicule in the States. She just wouldn't.

And about Sonam's attempt to give tips to Kangana, 🤣 This goes into what I wrote in the English topic. The people who make idiotic grammatical mistakes are the ones that have the gall to pick on others' English. 🥱

Regarding fake accents, I am no fan of them. My point was that people often do both: make fun of natural accents, and also criticize fake accents. I completely agree with estel here:

I fail to understand the big deal. Why are we so insecure about the Indian accent? Why do we cringe and hide our face? We find our own accent shameful. We find other accents appealing (there is nothing wrong in this). I just dislike the part where we find our own accent shameful and we tend to imitate other accents. We give everyone around us the consent to make us feel inferior about our complexion and our accent. I am proud of the country (Indian accent and all)!

The professor and his accent thing, I had seen a similar instance as well. Not one in my own class, but in a nearby lab an Indian student--and I think she was an international student--keeping at it and going on with her imitation of an Indian professor whom they all shared.

Definitely others make fun of the accent too, and the media had (though now it's less exaggerated because of certain shows and actors) always caricatured one particular type and that too in an exaggerated manner.

But there's certainly more harshness coming from Indians themselves on any kind of 'non acceptable' accent.
