Often in her life she reached a point where a straight path ceased to exist. A fork would appear out of nowhere, forcing her to make a choice. Right or left? Good or bad? The dilemma haunted her for ages. Each time she made a choice, there were consequences. People were hurt, hearts were broken, relationships were ruined. There was never a choice that left everyone happy and satisfied. Someone was hurt, one way or another.
All her life she had spent trying to make everyone around her happy. She was the number one people's pleaser. Never did she do anything for herself, not once did she put herself before anyone else. So when she usually chose, she chose for them, for what made them happy. After that, she would feel claustrophobic, for she had gotten herself entangled in a situation she personally didn't desire and the suffocation killed her everyday.
Being born with wings, she wasn't destined to be chained down, she was meant to soar high up in the sky. This never happened, unfortunately, for she was also afraid. Afraid of letting go, afraid of the consequences, afraid of judgement. She was also afraid of losing more. She had had share of that.
She was born a wildfire, with the spark and passion that could ignite the entire world. Unfortunately for her a brutal accident cruelly snatched away her family. Thus, she retreated into a shell and became a complete recluse. That is when he walked into her life. He was immortal, everlasting. He was the security blanket that she desperately needed and she clung onto him for dear life.
He came with restrictions. She wasn't the carefree spirit she was, with him. She was restricted and restrained...somewhat like a caged animal. Yet, she chose him because she wanted the safety that he offered. She wanted someone who wouldn't leave her side. He was uncomplicated, secure and caring. Everyone saw him as the good, careful guy. Even her friends loved him.
Then came along another him. He simply took her breath away. For the first time in her life, she had met her perfect match. Someone who challenged, surprised her and questioned her every move. He frustrated the life out of her, but he was always there for her. There was always an unsaid, unspoken understanding them. But, he was complex and unsafe and complicated. Her heart desired for the adventure he gave her, but as always, her fear and craving for safety got the better of her.
Each time she was asked to choose, she chose safety. She had always considered herself to be a ship and he was her safe harbour. She never dared to step out into the ocean, even though that was where she was meant to be.
The first time she chose her safe harbour, she didn't think of the consequences. He was her always, she knew...or she thought she did. But the second time she did, it broke her heart. The sweet, sinful taste of the ocean had consumer and overwhelmed her, and her heart wanted it, but her mind controlled her.
She was miserable. Her friends told her that she had made the right choice and that she would be happy. Only, she wasn't. It crushed her and killed her silently. Lies, deceit, it all just tore her apart.
Third time's the charm, they say. She believed in it too. When she was once again faced with the very same dilemma, the very same choice, she gave into her heart. She decided to sail into the ocean, for that was where she was meant to be. Questions arose, without a doubt, but she didn't. For the first time in a very long time she she felt alive, she felt the sparks, the passion and the fire. The sensation made her explode with happiness and a true glimpse of her real nature was revealed. Everything changed, her darker shades came out, she lost people, but she for once, didn't care. The journey was dangerous and adventurous, and she loved it, the risks were worth it. She was a person who danced to the tunes that matched hers and she didn't regret it.
A part of her questioned why she hadn't made this choice earlier, but she then realized that she hadn't been ready for it. But now...now she was.
So when he turned around and caught her staring at him, she felt her breath taken away, for what she guessed was the millionth time, she knew she had chosen right. Her destiny had always been with the road not taken. All was well.
