Well, it really depends.

I see nothing wrong with intimate scenes shot in a classy way.eg. Intimate scne in Kasamh Se. It was well shot and classy so I did not feel embarassed watching it with my family.

I think, that instead of disliking bold scenes because they are 'against' our culture, we should tihnk more about the moral message being given out in these serials. Bold scenes which are not vulgar are ok. We must think more about the moral message that these serials send out.

Here, Brijesh has two wives. One just to get a child. Is it necassary? In this show they say that he married again so that what they are doing isn't 'immmoral'. But I think it is much better to go in for a surrogate mother for artificil insemintation rather than get marreid again without divorcing your first wife. It is not immoral to have a paid surrogate mother.

I think that what is shown here is more 'immoral' than what is being shown in the west. There they are showing something that happens naturally. Here, however, what they are showning is just ethically wrong. And bold scens last for a very short time and their impact also doesn't stay for very long. But in this case, this issue is being dragged on for months on end and viewers are continously getting this message.

Finally, one last thing. Are these serials ment to be watched by the whole family? i don't think so. They never were. For although things are shown more explictly nowadays, the underlying adult themes were always present and focussed on.

Just my views and btw, veyr good topic.

P.S. I am not encouraging bold scenes or all of what is shown in the west. I am just offering another viewpoint.

why is it that everything western is considered bad?

aren't all cultures good... there are "bad" things in eastern cultures as well. One should be strong enough to pick out and embrace what one agrees with and discard the rest.

Promiscouity is not a western concept... nor does it only happen in the west.
I am not saying that I agree with "bold" scenes. Just that it is natural and therefore shown. I am not embarassed by them because I feel that I am mature enough to watch them and not cringe when sitting with my 69yr old bapu... Certain things may be immoral, like Brijesh/Tara/Urvashi triangle. But that is a sense of morals. In some cultures having a 2nd wife is accepted if not expected...
Even in some eastern cultures: if a wife could not have a child the wife would be thrown out of the house... That isnt fair, is it? But its life... 😕

I'm sorry if I have hurt anyone but when ple say "if the west wants to propogate promiscouity why should we follow?"... I mean thats just ethnocentric discrimination... I am not from a western country, and after apartheid I shouldn't even stand up for them... but how do we become stronger by pointing out the faults of others?

Now... back 2 bold scenes... 😳 My take is that it shouldn't be allowed during family viewing times at all. But the Kasam se scene was natural and loving, I see nothing wrong with that... 😉

Yes,

We are attacking the west and they are attacking us. Not everything western is bad. Just different.

i think these bold scenes are unnecessary... traditional indian families still feel uncomfortable watching such scenes together.... i most certainly do!

i think things related to the storyline can be symbolised without showing the details... chemistry can be symbolised just by body language... like our serial couples such as saloni-nahar and bani-jai walia (they hardly even talk to each other but u can sense the chemistry a mile off!)

I am not sure who you are pointing - Western. There are diferent channels and different programmes catered for different age groups. Disney, for kids and teens agers, ABC family for families, shows like Sex in the City or Desperate Wives are for different type of audience. We can choose which channel you can see at prime time OR family time example Everybody loves Raymond and many shouch shows, but most of the Indian Drama's show less of the Indian Culture & values but more of self pity, depressing and unrealistic. No serial is run without extra marital affair.
Anyway, this is just my opinion. Of all I enjoy Khana-Khajana. Great programe.

Good topic though.

None of these serials are ment for young children. The themes itself are quite PG-13.
